Correct.

What are still_sizes for?

Still sizes are episode images.

and also note that under profile_sizes you have listed a h632. Does this mean sized by height, not by width?

That means the size is constrained by height, and not width while keeping the aspect ratio the same. It's the reverse of all of the w sizes, which constrain by width.

Thanks for the clarification, helps me a fair bit.

Getting back to profile_sizes. In the Contribution bible, profile image size is minimum 300 x 450.

I would assume then there would have been a "w300" also listed under profile_sizes?

There is no w300 listed on profiles. That's just the minimum size we want to support as a database.

The key reason why there's a list of official sizes is that we can control the number of cached variants we store thus drastically increasing the speed/reliability/cost of our image service. Since w300 is a valid size for stills, it won't go anywhere. I would say that generally, it's ok to use.
