A general board was tried but discontinued due to trolls. It is not likely to be tried again. No genre-specific boards either, apparently. There was a lot of discussion a while ago, but it may be hard to find now.

I was going to start a new topic on this, but when I saw KeyserSuze's post I just thought I'd add my vote of support.

It would be really nice to give a "General" board another try.

I know this is a film/television site, but the General board really fleshed it out, I think, and many of us learned a lot of fascinating things about each other which really enhanced the experience of using this site.

Of course, not long after IMDB shut down its boards, the trolls arrived en masse, and I remember Travis was understandably very frustrated by this (as I think most of the rest of us were), and axed that particular board in short order.

But, perhaps maybe, he would consider giving it another try?

I would understand if he is totally against it, and I want to emphasize that TMDB is a great site and I as a user am very appreciative that we have it-- thank you Travis, I think you are doing a wonderful job!

It was a disaster last time, and Travis was pretty adamant about not resurrecting it. And I agree completely w/his decision. It's just not going to happen when you have volunteer MODS who don't have time to play an endless game of whack-a-mole w/trolls, etc.

I would like it if he tried again. Me and another poster did some 'Top Ten Films' yearly lists for the 1930's through the 2016, which is good but I would like to start a thread about the latest movies we've seen & what we rated them. It was a big favorite over at IMDb on the 'Poll Board', there were thousands of replies. There isn't any other way of doing it, it would have to be on a general discussion section.

Travis, please think about another go?

ooh :) This is interesting! I'd love it if we could give it another go. I know I wasn't here for last time but I have faith and optimism that we can be allowed to have nice things.

I am also more than happy to write a conditions of posting post and pin it somewhere, as well as doing a bit of troll spotting too, if that helps and it means we can have a general board.

I used to be daily very active on our General Chat forum and tremendously enjoyed the interesting, diverse, engaging cross-section (all ages, genres, tastes, preferred eras/decades) mix of members and the possibility of being able to discuss broad types of movie/t.v./entertainment-relevant, otherwise current timely, things that now there's simply no dedicated or proper place to have conversations about on our site.

Dream on, folks. I doubt that Travis (and the MODS) are even watching this thread.

I'd love to see the General Forum resurrected. I enjoyed the interaction of other members and was sad to see it go.

I think a General Board should be created. They should try it again.

There are always trolls in every site but that's always a normal risk. If not then all message boards in existence should be locked.

Not true. Message boards for most movies, TV series, actors, etc., don't tend to attract trolls. But a general board does tend to become a swamp because the trolls and other immature folks seem to see it as their playground.

I bet it will be a really long time before Travis tries it again, and I think it's at or near the bottom of his incredibly long list of things to do. And if he starts it up again, I bet it's going to get really bad really quickly again. And when it does, I think he'll finally give up on it once and for all, unless he and the MODS are masochists who want to spend most/all of their time policing the trolls. (And I don't think they are masochists.)

It's true what I said.

And are you forgetting the The Dark Knight , The Expendables, Games of Thrones, etc message boards from IMDB? All of them were trolls giant nests.

Travis has many priorities, that's true, but I think sooner or later General Message Boards shold be added.

If there are people who don't like them or don't like some trolls then... just ignore those boards and those trolls.
