The Movie Database Support

I recently added this short film - https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/483857-maya

When I search for Maya, it comes up with every other 'Maya' film under the sun except this one (I was trying to add it to one of my Lists).

Does it take a while for it to propagate throughout the system? Thanks!

When I search for Maya, it comes up with every other 'Maya' film under the sun except this one (I was trying to add it to one of my Lists).

What you could do in this specific case is:

1.) Narrow your search down by adding the year to the search term. Meaning, search for "Maya y:2011" instead, and you'll get to this page:

https://www.themoviedb.org/search/movie?query=maya%20y:2011

When I click on "Movies" in the left column, the first result is the short film that you recently added.

2.) If you'd tried to add it to your list, there's an easier way to do it. Go to the page of the film:

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/483857-maya

When you click on the second circle-shaped symbol at the top, right next to where it says "User Score", you can add the movie (the symbol means "Add to list."). Just choose one of your lists in the pop-up where it says "Add Maya to one of your lists ..." by clicking on the list you want the movie be a part of.

Does it take a while for it to propagate throughout the system?

That I can't answer.

Best wishes,

Hi Janar,

Thanks so much for your detailed response! I didn't realise that was how you narrowed down by year. However it doesn't seem to work when you're adding to a List, very weird. I've added it the other way, however - by clicking on the symbol 'Add to List'.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers, Jess

Hi Jess,

Oops, I think I just realized what you meant in your first post with searching for the title "Maya" and not finding it! sweat_smile

You didn't wrote about the "global" search on the whole website. You meant the search within the list functionality, when you click on "Add/Edit Items" in the left column, and then enter the search term into the data field for "Add Item" on the right, didn't you?

I never tried to search/add list items this way, I think. And you're correct: "Maya" doesn't appear here when you search for it, and it's also impossible to narrow it down with adding the year.

Indeed, very weird - it doesn't seem to work the same way the "global" search works for reasons I can't tell. Perhaps when Travis reads this, he can explain it?

I've added it the other way, however - by clicking on the symbol 'Add to List'.

Thanks for your help!

That's great - you're welcome! slight_smile

I've been all along noticing that certain movies (always fully mainstream releases) I search for on TMDb never appear on the results drop-down list, and the only way I can ever locate them on TMDb is to type in one of the stars' names, then check to see if anyone has ever linked them to whichever movie in question. (Fortunately, so far that's proven effective and successful 100% of the time. Thus I've, to date, always been able to find whatever it may be that I'm searching for.)

Every single time I'm unable to get a particular movie to appear on the results drop-down list it's a movie with a very short title - yet, as you mentioned bolly, certain other identically-titled movies (but of other years), or with similarly short (or even shorter) titles do appear, fully fine, in search results. That sounds like the exact same situation you're experiencing, bolly, regarding the short-titled Maya.

I'm on Windows 7 and so far continue to access TMDb via Internet Explorer, if the issue may be something that only members similarly accessing TMDb experience.

Haha yes, that's exactly what I meant :) Maybe the coding there is just different. I'm no developer but the search function mustn't be the same. Oh well, I added it the back way :) Thank you!

Yes - I will admit it's not the first time I haven't been able to find something! But surely the operating system and internet browser you're using shouldn't make much of a difference?

No, not usually however, right around the time of your original post we were doing some database maintenance and I believe there was a queue of items waiting to be indexed (the process to make things searchable) for approx. 30 minutes. Normally this process is essentially instant.

Maya is on the search results page at spot #16. It's a super common word/name. In the autocomplete's case, since we're searching across all 3 models (movies, TV shows and people) and only yield the first 10 results, you aren't going to find it that way. From there, you can use @janar72's info. But for lists, this is a tricky one. I guess I need to add more than the first 10 results. grin
