How can recommendations be improved?

I've just added about 500 ratings from my IMDB account. As recommendations seems to only get calculated given favourite movies, I marked (manually) every movide with rate >= 8 (about 50-60). I would appreciate any other suggestion to improve my recommendations since, at the moment, every movie in the recommendations list is completly irrelevant.

The recommendation system is still very bad.
I have lots of international independent films in my favorites. The first 20 recommendations for me are mainly Marvel films or other blockbuster movies.
Are you planning to incorporate user ratings for the recommendations? I don't know if this is feasible, there must be some reason that Netflix changed from a ratings to a favorites system.

The recommendation system is being completely replaced later this year. It has not been touched since the original implementation, ie. it has not changed since 2017.

It'd be great if you did something similar to what Criticker does. I've never had better recommendations in any other site, it feels like it's reading your mind.

An second individualized movie user score that only averages ratings of users that have a similar taste to yourself would be really awesome.

This is all planned work for later this year. Rest assured I know that it needs to be improved and that it will.
