Correct, the only ID we have for movies is IMDB. Because of this, it's s field that is available on the details method.

Silly me, couldn't see it for looking and was expecting it to be somewhere else Thanks

Hey Travis,

How do you have movies without IMDB? Actually Ive seen a lot of missing IMDB IDs and yet looking them up, they have IMDB pages. Seems to be a lot of missing data here.

Could be they are duplicates or different titled. Feel free to add the missing data. Also, for some entries there simply might not be a IMDb entry - at least not at creation.

And to add to what @alltimemarr said, the IMDb ID is not a required field so until someone comes along and adds it, it would be empty.

Right, I totally understand that.

The last few days, I've pulled thousand of movies from different decades, and I have a large database already which I can sort based on missing information, is anyone able to just make edits? Because with the info I have, there are a lot of edits that need to be made, that goes with IMDB IDs, YouTube vide Keys, some seem to be mismatched and of course missing. I'm still in the infancy stages within my project but so far these are the few things Ive noticed at an overall glance. I will say though, the TMDB API for movies is by far the best that is available.

is anyone able to just make edits?

Yes, that's the entire point wink I always say TMDb is like a specialized version of Wikipedia but for movies, TV shows and people.

Ya, there's always work to be done. Every entry starts off with basically only a title and an overview (created by a user with the + button on every page). From there it's up to the people to make better. There's no import or sync process or anything like that from any other database. It's 100% built here.

Thanks!

Hi Travis,

Do you guys check or verify the accuracy of crew member credits? Like from local film unions, production offices, including accounting department verification?

Also, I am trying list my film / television credits, but your job categories don't list specific job titles such as 1st assist, 2nd assist, daily etc. I am trying to be as accurate as possible. Will your site add more sub categories for each department? Also does your site list individual episodic crew credits like IMDb does? For example: Designated Survivor S01E03, S01E06 Crew member X was a Daily or an Assistant in the Hair department

To make things easier, I am trying to export my IMDb page to this site, but I don't see the import / export button that your faq pages talks about. Is that even possible? or do I have to go to each film / television title and add my individual credits that way?

Are there any protocols in place that prevents someone from adding or deleting credits from my page?

Anyways thanks in advance Travis,

Cheers,

Omar

We have no function to lock credits. But please don't add incorrect credits because the function isn't there -- then don't add it. (So no Make-up Assistant as Make-up Artist. But Makeup Artist for Scarlett Johansson is fine to add as Makeup Artist of course!)

When I watch a movie on my laptop, and end up at the ending credits, I always verify TMDb information, and add/delete credits when necessary.

You can add episodes crew members too, at the edit episode > crew page.

That would be a good function to have though.
Could it be considered for future implementation?

For the first question: yes, many users (and moderators) check the official movie credits. Others use official press material and multiple sources to get the most accurate information available. For the second one: Not that I know of.

If a job is missing, the best advice is - like Marr said - to not add it with a similar existing credit. We don't want bad data. There is a discussion topic where users can suggest jobs to be added and then after some months we gather those together and submit them to Travis.

The beauty of this database is that we give users a lot of freedom to contribute. When contributing on IMDb I sometimes have to wait months before a credit is approved. Here it is immediate. Unfortunately, at times users abuse that privilege. We have a zero tolerance policy for vandalism and users are banned when such acts are discovered.

Locks for cast and crew credits should be an option for the future, but in my opinion it's still a bit early for that.

Thanks lineker and Marr for getting back to me.

IMDb has their crew job descriptions based on Union categories. Will this site follow the same format as IMDb does for crew job descriptions?

I went to look at the crew job description message board for guidelines and what I found was the list was incomplete and unorganized. (That's why I couldn't enter a credit under Make-up Department because it's category doesn't exist. At least not yet). I've made a suggestion albeit hastily and a bit crude, so apologizes on the rough grammar.

For example: A Make-up Artist for Scarlett Johansson would be listed as Personal Make-up or Personal Make-up Artist. Not Make-up Artist, as this would be a separate Union category under the same department.

I need to be as specific as possible when entering my credits here as my Union category is listed on my Deal memos and my cheque stubs, and I'd hate to get fined or released from my Local for misrepresentation of myself.

Thanks guys in advance. Cheers.

We don't go by unions category or anything. I think the categories are "handmade" by Travis tailored to TMDb's needs. (Also TMDb isn't really the place to promote "your own work", but if you're credited as one or another job existing on TMDb in movies or such, you'll appear on TMDb eventually!)
