The Movie Database Support

 Ongoing Maintenance

Dear TMDb Community,

In the next few months, you might notice some changes on our site. My primary goal is, and always has been, to build the best media database on the internet and in order for me to stay true to that goal, we will be making these changes to enable TMDb to be more robust and reliable than before.

As you might recall from my 2019 recap, I have some pretty amazing plans for 2020 so stay tuned for some really fantastic launches this year!

If you have any questions please contact us at support@themoviedb.org.

Sincerely,

Travis

By what pattern does your bot scrape things from TVDB? Is it just a one time thing after a link has been made and you have a list of shows who get the treatment more regularly? From what I can see it tends to skip things a user created but it would be interesting to know of a way you could rely on it. Comparing what's on TVDB and on TMDB I can find plenty of gaps for my shows but I'm not really bored enough to migrate them over myself.

Hi sp1ti,

We don't really scrape TVDb for data anymore, but when new episodes are imported we do check for an episode image. If an episode image doesn't exist at the time of the original episode creation (here on TMDb) we don't ever try again, so it would be left imageless.

If you find/see some gaps you can either improve the data yourself or use the "Report" button and see if anyone else takes up the job to improve it.

Cheers.

Hi Travis, Thanks for the reply. Then my question would be when or where do you import from and can we trigger that :)?

Looking at http://www.themoviedb.org/tv/61415-fate-stay-night-unlimited-blade-works/season/1 for example: The bot "destroyed" certain episodes and added new ones starting from episode "7" as Mirage... just that Mirage is actually episode number 6. This was just done recently (episodes onward from 8 were also missing). That data is from TVDB? Why did this trigger? I know that the TVDB id has been there for a while now.

Besides the fact I would have abused that to add missing shows it seems odd to me to only handle certain shows this way and only for a bunch of episodes (another good example is http://www.themoviedb.org/tv/26867-mushi-shi/season/2). I can also see shows from an apparent TVDB dump which were never completed so having that function would only make sense (http://www.themoviedb.org/tv/54393-stella-women-s-academy-high-school-division-class-c (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=271152) & http://www.themoviedb.org/tv/55917-stella-jogakuin-koutouka-c3-bu (was a duplicate at http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=271252).

On a side note: I noticed in the bot history that he is screwing with Ascension (a three part series) http://www.themoviedb.org/tv/60741-ascension/season/1/changes - he keeps readding episode 5?

I honestly found too many gaps as to fix them quickly that is why I'm asking (shows completely missing, only certain episodes missing, seasons missing, tons of missing episode captures, etc.).

http://i.imgur.com/yd4dnZE.png the bot is still f*cking with the data in 2015. The episode also gets a backdrop from TVDB in 720p but since you hide all it's activity I can't even tell what he is doing.

I haven't done any work on this yet and probably won't have time for a bit yet.

More weirdness: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/45790/season/3/episode/1/changes

Episode info in Japanese... no idea if the episode was JP in it's EN field on TVDB (a user has been doing that recently) or doing something else completely wrong.

Still curious to get some more info on this or if you have any concrete plans. Not that you have to fix it right away. Looks like freebase will be going away this year too.

Taking JoJo as an example again: http://www.themoviedb.org/tv/45790/season/3/changes

Bot created EP1 a day after airing (with the Japanese episode title)

Bot created EP4 yesterday despite it not airing for another 5 days

...the bot did however not create EP2 and EP3..?

http://www.freebase.com/m/011s_3nn only has EP1 & EP2. Synopsis for EP4 is from Wikipedia.

Taking the current anime season as an example where most new shows are past episode 3 by now there are only like 4 of them added to the DB (one by myself) (going by https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/45790/similar and the occasional search). There are around 18 new shows and multiple shows with new seasons from which also not all have been added (either the season or the complete show). The same amount or more get released every quarter year but since initial import of the DB hardly any of these shows were added. I contribute to TVDB frequently but I don't see the point of readding the same stuff again when there is a chance to get that automated. Same applies for clean ups of half empty shows.

I will personally still use TVDB for myself but since trakt V2 supports high res screenshots from TMDB so I'm still interested to see something developed but especially for anime the pool of contributors is not even a handful of people "strong" which is something that would greatly benefit from something like this.

Any news?

Looks like the bot is already doing my change requests: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/61259/season/2/changes https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/54bd63bdc3a3681421007ede :x...

Hey sp1ti,

No news, I haven't touched anything in this area for about a year. Unfortunately in the grand scheme of things, this is a fairly low priority item for me. I can't guarantee I'll find the time to look at this for a few more months as I have lots to do right now.
