The Movie Database Support

Hi! I'm new here, searched but couldn't find anything on the topic. Here's my question:

Is it possible to import my watchlist.csv file from imdb into a list(or new list) here on themoviedb?

this is how the first lines of the csv file looks: "position","const","created","modified","description","Title","Title type","Directors","You rated","IMDb Rating","Runtime (mins)","Year","Genres","Num. Votes","Release Date (month/day/year)","URL" "1","tt0478304","Mon Jul 18 12:12:07 2011","Mon Jul 18 12:12:07 2011","","The Tree of Life","Feature Film","Terrence Malick","","6.8","139","2011","drama, fantasy","97933","2011-05-16","http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478304/"

Hi enorst,

There is no such functionality for importing IMDb lists at this time but I have gone ahead and created a new ticket. I actually like this idea but am in the middle of some things and won't have time to get to it for a few weeks.

great! so your the guy coding i suppose?

edit: i clicked your name and yes you are...

great website/database! i'm trying to bring some of my moviefriends over here to share lists etc. Cheers, Eske

Hey enorst,

This was just pushed live. You can import an exported IMDB list to either one of your watchlist, favourite or rated lists.

Cheers.

Sorry to sound like a newbie, but how exactly do you import the IMDB list? Steps?

Thanks for the extra info WardenclyffeTower!

I wish to import to some other list (Other than "Favorites", "Rated", or "Watchlists") How can I do that?

Hey KoolPal,

We don't support importing them into custom lists yet. This is something that is planned though.

Hi sorry bring up old conversation. Adding to custom list is it still something your looking in too as that would be great. I have made few list all in genre it would be great to keep these list.

Also I have few TV shows list that would be great to import.

Thanks for your great work

still nothing on importing to custom lists?

So I'm having issues.. I was able to get the list as a CSV from IMDB. I noticed on TMDB's "import list" feature it says they support 6 CSV formats. Mine matches v3 under IMDB. However, when I go to select the .csv file IMDB exported and import it into TMDB I get a message that says_> "The file you submitted could not be mapped to one of our supported formats. If you'd like to ask for a new format to be added, head over to the forums." _

What am I doing wrong?

Hi @castletv,

Would you mind emailing me a copy of the file you're trying to upload? If the system isn't detecting it as valid, that means it's a variation on a format that I haven't seen yet. You can send it to travis@themoviedb.org.

sure thing. I will send one right over

@castletv do these things before importing list exported from IMDb (basically make it look exactly as sample provided by tmdb on its import list page) -

  1. rename file as imdb_v3.csv (or whatever version v1/v2/v3-use v3 for latest imdb list)
  2. rename sheet inside .csv file too as imdb_v3 (or whatever version v1,v2,v3-use v3 for latest imdb list)
  3. now add 2 new columns at the end of the exisiting data namely -> Your Rating & Date Rated, if they dont already exist in the exported column of imdb list

Hi @travisbell ,

Any updates on when importing to Custom User Lists will be supported?

Thanks

Hello Travis,

Is the csv import to custom list feature really still on the to do list or has it been scrapped? Your last comment on it in this thread was in 2014, so it's been almost 7 years.

I'm really looking forward to completely moving away from IMDb, but I have a lot of lists I really want to carry over.

Any status update would be great, thanks

EDIT: Import Custom Lists on the To-Do list; please vote for this feature there. https://trello.com/c/1BtimdXf/23-importing-csvs-into-custom-lists
