Three-screen film. Three projectors with lamps of equal wattage are required, having lenses of 2" for normal projection: approx. 50 feet projector-to-screen. Place projectors side-by-side; screen images should be same-sized, separate but touching. Center reel is mixed color/B&W and carries the soundtrack. The two side reels are B&W, silent, and are to be run at 24 fps with sound turned off. Begin with center projector, sound turned on, and run alone until the title "Parallax" is finished: then switch on two side projectors simultaneously.

Vibrating photo of still life

Measurement of optical distance collides with psychological proximity. The experience of an eye test retreats to insect visual motion experiment observers. We walk through a camera obscura to a Lacanian anecdote. Interior and exterior space blurs. It’s a process of anchoring yourself from the outside.

On October 2, 1968, the people of Mexico staged a massive protest against the country’s bid to host the Olympic Games. The Mexican army responded by killing hundreds of students in the streets. Employing disruptive montage, Parallax combines images from this original protest in 1968 and those filmed on the 50th anniversary of the student massacre, held October 2, 2018. The film offers a critique of the cyclical nature of political tyranny, while attempting to develop a new audiovisual language that drifts between the political and the poetic.

Some nights are just pure magic! In October of 2017, hard rock titans Alter Bridge took to the stage of the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London for two very special headline shows. Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips treated the capacity crowds to selections from their entire musical catalog. The set list included some of the band’s biggest hits; rarities and even a few songs the band had never previously performed live. Adding another career first for the band, Alter Bridge was joined on stage by conductor Simon Dobson and the 52-piece Parallax Orchestra. Together, everyone on stage during those two extraordinary nights treated the combined crowd of over 10,000 fans to an unforgettable music experience. Now those two performances have been combined in to one full length, epic concert that is to be shared with fans around the globe in Alter Bridge: Live At The Royal Albert Hall.

Grass, stones, water, steel: the body recalls the time of things in this short film on the mountains and the almost obsessive walking of those who live there. Geological and political memory, without centre and without end, which returns in the family films assembled here following a logic of displacements, dispersions, discordances between sound and image. The screen is divided in two, as in the old stereoscopic devices, but the images do not overlap to create a single vision. Instead, they meet in the distance that separates them, as do the people portrayed on them: a group of women in an occupied factory, a woman in an elegant dress looking at herself in a mirror, a baby kicking, little girls posing for their first communion. The rhythm is the discontinuous one of a memory that brings reality and imagination together.

Confusion, underlying meaning and unspoken truths are often associated with the dialectic of sexual communication. Mingled with the intensity and unpredictability of a “one night stand,” they generate unique sensations – mixed emotion, risk, and excitement. The film employs formal devices in a manner that is exceedingly simple, yet very effective. Its subject matter, sexuality and communication, gains depth and poignancy through the artist’s decision to shoot the film’s three scenes for projection in a “double screen” configuration.

Performance for 4 mobile 16mm projectors, a triple screen, and a spatialized sound diffusion. Parallax – an effect by which the position of an object seems to change when it is looked at from different positions. Working on the concept of geometry and space in the cinema, from the planar space of the photogram to the stage of its representation, this project reveals a multi-faceted object. The different surfaces that circumscribe the screen, the movement of projectors on rails, the changes in projection angles and the simultaneous visions. Parallaxe emphasizes the transport of images and their ability to modify the perception that we have on a same reality. Associated with Michalis Moschoutis' direct sounding device, Nominoë's graphic images are deconstructed and their virtualities increased tenfold. Spatial sound diffusion immerses the audience in this multidimensional device, at once a movie set, movie theater and film.

A camera-object travelling through landscape records images of static objects/textures apparently moving, all at variable rates, depth cues constantly changing, the illusion problematic doubled, and representation confounded as projection produces the opposite - a travelling landscape. This was my first film and, as with later films and video work, in some way parallels issues I had been working through in my sculpture'. DH.
