A documentary comedy narrated by the wife of a man who suffers from hyper-acoustic sensitivity, which makes his life in Tel Aviv, one of the noisiest urban locations on earth, a living hell. Tormented by the belief that they live in an incredibly noisy society, the award-winning couple of Israeli filmmakers resolves to investigate the issue: they install cameras in their house to capture sources of this formidable sonic mass that invades their daily lives. Noise is a reviving acknowledgement of the Griersonian tradition of dramatic treatment and social exclamation for a civil change in the actual world.

NOISE calls attention to the assemblage element of video by allowing the image to disintegrate into static between edits. Benglis also plays back several generations of image and soundtrack to introduce increasing amounts of distortion. Conversation is reduced to unintelligible noise, resulting in the disassociation of sound and image that to some extent characterizes her later work.

The Noise was a magazine show broadcast on ITV in 1996, presented by Andi Peters.

It was broadcast after the CITV Saturday morning slot at 11am, and was all about music.

The title sequence to the show depicts two middle-aged ladies enjoying tea and cakes together. While in the next room, a beat box speaker is playing a noisy tune which is disturbing both of the ladies. The loudness of the beat box causes the ladies room to vibrate vigorously, until it breaks through the wall to the ladies room and generates a swirl from its main speaker, sucking both of the ladies inside it as if it were a black hole. The titles were created by LWT's Bill Wilson, and the instrumental theme tune was composed by the synthpop duo, Pet Shop Boys.

The show performed as a flop with television audiences, and was never scheduled for a second series.

Julian Turner appeared on the show as an assistant to Andi Peters, but left the show during the series due to artistic differences, and went on to pursue a successful career in international finance.

An edit for TV was shown on 4Music on 23 November 2008, and on Channel 4 on 29 November 2008.

"Standing on the Edge of the Noise" was also a song written by Gem Archer, released when Beady Eye included it on their debut album, 2011's Different Gear, Still Speeding.
