The lives and missions of the crew of a Welsh rescue boat.

Lifeboat Luke is an animated 52x5 min TV action adventure series set in the magical town of Donaghadoo. Directed and designed by Alastair McIlwain, produced by Richard Morss and Darryl Collins, the series has aired in Ireland on RTÉ Two on DEN TOTS and in over twenty territories worldwide.

The search and rescue series for 4-7 year olds is fast, fun, full of visual jokes and eccentric characters with strong sea safety messages for children running through the episodes.

Lifeboat Luke is the first 52 part animation series to be originated and produced in Northern Ireland and has been financed through a combination of private investment and Northern Ireland Screen Lottery Production Fund including the Irish Film Board, the Broadcast Commission Ireland Sound & Vision, Northern Ireland Screen Commission, Banjax Studios, and RTÉ. The series was a co-production with Kavaleer in Dublin.

Luke the Lifeboat Ltd, producers of the series, are working in an exclusive partnership with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The first 13 episodes were produced at Banjax Studios based in Belfast with LTL Production, based in Holywood, Northern Ireland, producing the remaining 39 episodes and delivering the entire 52 episode series. The licensing and commercialisation of the property is now being carried out by Straandlooper Animation.

A moving documentary made to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster on 19 December 1981. The eight-man crew of the RNLB Solomon Browne, the lifeboat from the Penlee station in Mousehole, Cornwall, put to sea in an exceptionally severe gale to rescue the five-man crew of the MV Union Star, a cargo ship whose engines had failed two miles off the coast and which was in danger of being swept onto the rocks. The Solomon Browne was initially able to rescue the captain's family and one of the crew from Union Star but, as they attempted to rescue the captain and the remaining crewmate, radio contact with the Solomon Browne was lost and both crews perished.

Our picture shows the life-boat responding to an alarm. The horses start out from the station at a gallop, and the members of the crew run beside the boat. This negative is unusually fine photographically."
