While traveling home from Vegas, an amorous lounge singer named Dino gets conned by a local mechanic/songwriter into staying in town for the night. The mechanic's songwriting partner, Orville, offers Dino his home for overnight lodging and enlists a local waitress/call girl to pose as his wife in order to placate Dino's urges.
Sammo and George Lam are partners in crime and they scam some triad big shot out of a load of money and decide to retire. Three years later they both receive letters from Stanley Fung, in which he informs them that he has proof of all their criminal activity and unless they do exactly what he says–he will turn it over to the cops. Fung is an ex-cop himself and is trying to get the goods on the same triad leader that Sammo and George scammed.
To very different crimes, a post office robbery and a murder, happens at the same time. Two detectives at the Bergen police station get each their case. But could there be a connection?
A quarrel in a club room leads to a duel between two of the characters. Honor is satisfied by the usual "continental scratch" and the affair ends. Foolshead, however, has been a witness of the combat and is smitten with the duel fever, so a series of highly amusing scenes are witnessed in which Foolshead endeavors to get somebody to fight with him. Finally he gets a good beating for his pains, assaults the police and is arrested.
