For nearly a decade, James Taylor's songs and personal style have expressed the changing modes and sentiments of our generation. And this is the only recording of James in concert as of 1979. It captures the charismatic and masterful Taylor in a performance highlighted by his sweet, soulful vocals, musical virtuosity, and disarmingly enchanting stage presence. Backed up by a tight, polished band comprised of a stellar cast of musicians (many of whom have played and recorded with Taylor for years) James delivers powerful renditions of his classics "Sweet Baby James;' "Carolina On My Mind;' "Blossom',' and "Steamroller:' The band features Don Grolnick on keyboards, Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Watchel on guitars, Leland Sklar on bass, David Sanborn on saxophone, and David Lasley and Arnold McCuller on back-up vocals. These hits include, but are not limited to the songs Fire and Rain and Sweet Baby James from the many multiplatinum albums by this enduring artist. As a bonus in this film, Taylor also shares the stories behind his many songs and how he came to write them. He also talks candidly about his career in this fabulous performance, which is a testament to his great talent and creative abilities.

In November of 1970 James Taylor and Carole King first performed together at the Troubadour on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, California. Taylor had just released his debut album for the Beatles' newly formed Apple Records and King was finding her way as a first time solo performer even though by then she was a famous songwriter with a string of hits for other artists. When they returned to the club for a two-week co-headlining run in 1971 their lives were somewhat different. That summer Taylor's "Fire and Rain" was topping the charts and King's landmark Tapestry was on its way to making her a music superstar. Thirty-six years later, in November 2007, James Taylor, Carole King and members of their renowned original band "The Section" (featuring guitarist Danny Kortchmar, bassist Leland Sklar and drummer Russell Kunkel) returned to the Troubadour for a three-night, six-show run to celebrate the venue's 50th anniversary.

This live set from 1979 opens, appropriately, with the vintage “Blossom” from 1970’s Sweet Baby James, and is of particular interest to Taylor aficionados for its inclusion of several tracks from Flag. These are “Millworker,” “Brother Trucker,” his hit cover of Goffin and King’s “Up on the Roof,” and “I Will Not Lie for You,” which are interspersed among staples from an already rich catalog.
