The communists intern attorney Franczuk, an advisor to the Solidarity movement. Szostak, who a few days ago was taken out of the plant on a wheelbarrow as a defector, wants to return to work. However, this proves to be a very difficult, not to say impossible, task.

The Element of Hope is the story of a man who is completely cut off from the world and lives a life of isolation as if he were part of the house. He is looking for a job but does not seem hopeful. The only person he meets every day is his wife. However, communication between him and his wife is hard. His wife thinks their relationship has no hope. His wife, who is a faculty member at the university, appears to be dating another man.

The film presents a portrait by Maria Binder of May Ayim, Ghanaian-German poet, academic and political activist. May Ayim was one of the founders of the Black German Movement, and her research on the history and present situation of Afro-Germans, but also her political poetry, made her known in Germany and in other countries. May Ayim wrote in the tradition of oral poetry and felt a strong connection to other Black poets of the diaspora. Poetry gave her an opportunity to confront the white German society with its own prejudices. The film shows the author in performances in South Africa and in Germany. Interviews and poems reveal the search for identity, how and why the term Afro-German was introduced and how a young Black woman experienced the German unification. May Ayim lived from 1960 to 1996. In Berlin, a street which had the name of a colonialist was renamed in 2010 after May Ayim.

Former professional runner Martin dies of AIDS. The terminal stage of the disease is unbearable for him and he asks for the euthanasia of his parents, especially his father, with whom he has not seen for several years due to mutual disputes. However, the mother is not even willing to hear about euthanasia and desperately clings to her son's life. But Martin is left with only the consciousness of his past glory and the sad memories of his love and lover - a homosexual friend from whom he contracted the disease and who committed suicide. And in these last hours, Martin's life is being decided. Is there any hope that he will change his mind?

In a small rural town, Alex, a former professional boxer, lives as a worker for a concrete materials company. One night, chased by armed men, his twin sister breaks into his home with a migrant and his daughter. Alex, forced by the situation, helps to hide them, unaware that they are keenly sought. The spiral starts. With no choice and under financial pressure, he starts competing in illegal boxing fights.

A young guy who works in a bank and chases women all the time, visits one of the wizards one day; upon returning from that visit he acquires the ability to see the true nature of each person; when one the wealthy men approaches him to get a loan from the bank, he refuses but that he gets the young guy into many problems.
