A slow farm life is turned upside-down thanks to some magic pills....

In works like “Guide Dog Ruepel” (1962), Bärbl Bergmann was the first feature film director in the GDR to portray children in their often pitiless but also honest dealings with each other, something that was almost impossible in the documentary films of that period. But she also managed to sneak lessons on how to pursue educational goals with creative obstinacy into popular science films. Thus her educational piece about two boys who discover that magic, too, requires hard work, despite its rational approach, is far from disenchanting: The protagonists reach their conclusion via detours that take them through mysterious corridors, furtive looks through keyholes and bewitching dreams.

This one hour program reviews the 2-year, 16,000 mile journey of the Polynesian Voyaging Society's double-hulled canoe Hōkūleʻa as it retraced the major migratory routes of the ancient Polynesians. The canoe and her crew visited Tonga, Sāmoa, Tahiti and New Zealand, and navigation was done without instruments. Elisa Yadao and Cliff Watson of KGMB cover the story of the nearly month long 2,800 mile sail back to Hawaii, and a look back at the voyage of rediscovery.

This is the story of the final days of the Hōkūleʻa's voyage on its arrival to Tahiti in March 1980 after 32 days at sea. Photographed by Don Kozono and reported by news reporter Bart Fredo for KGMB News.

A film on basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida's work in Japan, "Homage to Hokusai". Chillida himself talks about his work.

Katsushika Hokusai was probably the most famous and most outstanding Japanese painter and printmaker of his generation, and was the artist whose fame was the quickest to cross the seas. A multi-faceted and all-round artist, his work is labyrinthine, probably comprising some 30,000 prints, not counting his oil paintings and the books he illustrated. The painter’s life was rich, his work was prolific, and both were imbued with a multitude of signs most of which are unknown to us. This documentary embarks upon a journey and pays a “visit to Hokusai”, in the company of his enlightened admirers - Japanese connoisseurs, who are familiar with all these signs.
