ECHOES is an award winning experimental music documentary recorded on various abandoned military places in Greenland. The film is structued according to the sounds, structures and colours of the mosaic landscape of steep mountains. It tells the (love) story about two people who have met here, in in the midst of international politics and war history.

As Covid-19 begins to ravage NYC, a harried mother of two closes her Chinese restaurant while an African-American delivery woman picks up the final order. These two women escape their pandemic pressures while bonding over a very vocal social media trend.

Echoes chronicles the experiences of mothers who represent three distinct aspects of the story: A Chinese mother who abandoned her baby; a white, middle-class North American mother who adopted a Chinese girl; and a Canadian mother preparing to “pick up” her baby from China. Each one of these mothers shares her experiences and struggles reconciling the powerful emotions and ideas that both abandonment and adoption, from an alien culture, entail.

Structured around the recollection of a premonitory dream, fragmented memories from the period leading up to the death of the filmmaker’s mother were projected on to natural textures and surfaces, re-photographed, composited and processed until the memories became abstracted representations of the evolution, degradation and disintegration of memory and the physical self.

The documentary Hölderlin's Echo approaches the life and work of the well-known poet in an unusual way: In the real film parts, artists are observed and interviewed who interpret the numerous settings of Hölderlin's poems by well-known composers. Animated sequences interpret biographical sections of Hölderlin's moving life in poetic associative form. In the combination of both art forms, a complete work is created that consciously moves away from more conventional forms of geographical chronology and thus also tries to do justice to associative poetry.
