Butterfly chase.

Nocturnal Butterflies is Servais' serene and melancholic homage to Belgian surrealist Paul Delvaux (1897-1994), whose architectural paintings serve as the basis for the mise-en-scène for the film, and whose opaquely gazed women represent the enigmatic, silent witnesses who guard the secrets of the eccentric artist's curious world of precisely rendered, hermetic construction.

"Concluding with a citation of French cinematic pioneer Gaston Velle’s 1904 film of the same name, Ginard’s darkly celebratory film presents an impressionist vision of rebirth and transformation" (sfcinemateque.org)

Oscar, a shy lifeguard, flees the wrath of his boss following the disaster caused by the water purification machine he has developed. In his haste, he accidentally grabs a gangster's car containing the plans for a super satellite. A wild chase ensues.

An old man is obsessed by the haunting memory of his beloved who has passed on. He chases and collects butterflies while life slowly passes him by. The butterfly symbolizes his past happiness. Its erratic flight mimics the tragic tale of passionate love as the story flits between past and present, dream and reality. Set to the music of Gluck, The Song-Catcher shows an old man tormented by his dreams and consumed by sadness until his final release into eternity. Reminiscent of the world of Edgar Allan Poe, Philippe Vaucher's charcoal drawings capture the mournful landscapes of a tormented soul. In this hauntingly beautiful animated film, life melds into death in a sensuous celebration of love eternal. A film without words.

A spectator, who is a puppet, applauds the magic tricks of the butterfly woman, with whom he is in love. Under the force of his applause, the strings holding him in place give way. Thus free, he runs to the butterfly woman in the hope of conquering her and freeing her from her fate.

In my bath, I am asking myself questions about how bridges hold, what love is all about... and the essence of human being is to not understand everything.

Tsubomi is a savvy and horny school girl who works at a lingerie club, a gentlemen’s bar where scantily clad young women serve drinks to the patrons. She is useless at her job but is blackmailing her boss so she won’t get fired. One day she runs into a gorgeous young man who she takes to bed. She meets into a perverted talking cat with a butterfly on its forehead, who recruits her to be a magical soldier. She has to fight off a dominatrix elf woman called Beene, a minion of Regina Apis, a matriarch bent on chaos and forming her new Dynasty. Tsubomi is learning of her powers when she is rescued by an oddly familiar masked man, known only as Dandelion. The plot of this anime is completely farcical and parodies the magical girl genre and Sailor Moon in particular.

"Violence doesn't need a reason. It just happens." With the event of a love-marked burglary involving a young girl, the film deals with an exaggerated but everyday form of violence and violation, as well as a reality that is not far from ours. A cell phone that runs out of battery, a deep sexual desire but also the question that raises, really, how far is someone willing to go to satisfy it?

The film was made in the context of the 5th Panorama Film School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the theme DEACTIVATION.
