O Descobrimento do Brasil (The Discovery of Brazil) is an impressive historical epic recreating Álvares Cabral’s voyage to the New World in 1500, with a score especially written by the renowned composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos. One of the earliest examples of Brazilian cinema, this film depicts the perilous journey of Pedro Álvares Cabral’s armada from Portugal to Brazil. Though somewhat rudimentary compared to other films of the period, The Discovery of Brazil distinguishes itself with its scenes of indigenous people and Portuguese explorers on the beach, and in the imaginative lighting on board the ship. But the real star is the beautiful cantata by Villa-Lobos that permeates the film.

For decades, thousands of patients were hospitalized forcibly, without diagnosis of mental illness, in an enormous hospice in the city of Barbacena, Minas Gerais, southeast of Brazil. There they were tortured, raped and killed without anyone caring about their fate. Famous journalists, in the 1960s and 70s, made reports denouncing the ill-treatment. None of them - as Daniela Arbex does now - could tell the whole story. Sixty thousand died. Some managed to survive. And they now tell a little about the terrifying history of the Cologne Hospital.

Topa ou Não Topa is the Brazilian version of Deal or No Deal, broadcast in Portuguese by SBT. It is hosted by Silvio Santos. There are 26 cases, containing amounts from R$ 0.50 to R$ 1,000,000. On August 25, 2010, the gameshow returned and the host is Roberto Justus but in similar set to the old version.

Like most sets of Brazilian versions of US game shows, their set and graphics are a dead ringer to the American counterpart.

The R$1,000,000 grand prize was won by a man named Paulo in April, 2007.
