Glen Travis Campbell (born April 22, 1936) is a Grammy- and Dove Award-winning, Golden Globe-nominated American country pop singer, guitarist, television host and occasional actor. He is best known for a series of hits in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as for hosting a variety show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS television.

During his 50 years in show business, Campbell has released more than 70 albums. He has sold 45 million records and racked up 12 RIAA Gold albums, 4 Platinum albums and 1 Double-Platinum album. Of his 74 trips up the country charts, 27 landed in the Top 10. Campbell's hits include John Hartford's "Gentle on My Mind", Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston", Larry Weiss's "Rhinestone Cowboy" and Allen Toussaint's "Southern Nights".

Campbell made history by winning four Grammys in both country and pop categories in 1967. For "Gentle on My Mind" he received two awards in country & western, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" did the same in pop. He owns trophies for Male Vocalist of the Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM), and took the CMA's top honor as 1968 Entertainer of the Year. In 1969 Campbell was hand picked by actor John Wayne to play alongside him in the film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Campbell sang the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award.

In 2005, Campbell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Glen Travis Campbell est un chanteur, musicien et acteur américain de musique country, né le 22 avril 1936 à Billstown (comté de Pike dans l'Arkansas) et mort le 8 août 2017 à Nashville (Tennessee).

Il apparut dans la première adaptation de True Grit par Henry Hathaway, sorti en 1969 sous le titre français de Cent dollars pour un shérif, western américain. Il apprit la guitare avec son oncle, Boo, tout jeune encore, et joua sans savoir lire les notes. En plus de savoir jouer de la guitare, il savait notamment jouer de la basse, du banjo et même de la cornemuse.

Glen Campbell forme en compagnie de son oncle Dick Bill un groupe qui se produira entre 1954-58 à Albuquerque au Nouveau-Mexique. À 18 ans, il fait une tournée aux côtés des Western Wranglers, puis des Champs. Il s'installe à Los Angeles en 1958 en tant que musicien de scène, et est de plus en plus sollicité au cours des années 1960. En 1964 et 1965, il fut entre autres musicien sur scène pour les Beach Boys. Il fit partie d'un collectif de musiciens de session et de scène appelé The Wrecking Crew, présent sur l'effet Wall of Sound de Phil Spector. On peut aussi entendre Glen Campbell sur l'album Pet Sounds, et le voir dans le film Le Sillage de la violence (Baby, the Rain Must Fall) aux côtés de Steve Mc Queen. Il participa à une tournée des Bee Gees.

Lors de la sortie de son album Ghost on a Canvas, il annonce que celui-ci sera le dernier, suivi d'une dernière tournée. Ceci s'explique par le fait qu'en juin 2011, il a découvert qu'il était atteint de la maladie d'Alzheimer.

Il meurt à Nashville le 8 août 2017 à l'âge de 81 ans.
