Nomis is... finished. I can’t thank my amazing post team enough. What an amazing journey, 1000 times harder than I thought it would be but so so worth it. To the lonely nights writing it, to the freezing tundra filming it. To everyone who has touched this production, be it my incredible cast and crew, to first time interns exploring film production thank you. ...

Variety

The L.A. Film Festival has selected the thriller “Nomis,” starring Henry Cavill, Ben Kingsley and Alexandra Daddario, as its closing night film on Sept. 28 at the ArcLight Hollywood Cinerama Dome.

The showing will be the world premiere for “Nomis,” which follows American police trapping an online predator, only to realize the depth of his crimes goes far beyond anything they had anticipated.

“As a festival that has always championed new voices, it is only fitting to be closing this year with the work of a first-time writer/director,” said Jennifer Cochis, LA Film Festival Director. “In Nomis, David Raymond created a thrilling film made all the more terrifying by the performances from his incredible cast.”

Deadline

The film focuses on a police trap for online predator Simon Stulls. They soon realize that the extent of his crimes go far beyond that of his own psychological trauma. Nothing quite makes sense – that is, until people involved in the case on both sides of the law start getting murdered.

The Los Angeles Film Festival has set its closing-night film with Nomis, starring Henry Cavill and Ben Kingsley.

Nathan Fillion, Minka Kelly, Alexandra Daddario and Stanley Tucci also star in the movie from David Raymond, about a police force's hunt for an online predator that leads to crimes far larger than anticipated.

Difficult as my hand writing reads somewhere up there was: 1938 Sullivan Place, Ask Clark, Ask Jonathan Kent, Smallville, Rusty, Red Son, Hans Zimmer and his tracks Oil Rig, Arcade and Arrival. John Williams and Fortress of Solitude, Arthur Curry, Lex Corp, Richard Donner, Kneel Before Zod, Star Labs Report, 1952 (first episode of Superman), April 18th 1938 (first Superman comic), DC wins every time (they should) and finally Kal is a Big Boy. “I’m very, very blessed that we were able to get the cast that we did,” said writer and director David Raymond. “Ben was the first one who signed on. You always write with someone in mind, but I never thought we’d end up getting him. Candidly, when Henry’s name came up, I initially dismissed him — not because I don’t love him, but because I thought there’s no way Henry Cavill would sign on to doing a thing like this.”

LA Film Festival

We closed the 2018 #LAFilmFestival with a standing ovation for @stingrayed’s thrilling debut feature NOMIS at @ArcLightCinemas Cinerama Dome! The film really had us on the edge of our seats, including the cast!

Nerd Reactor

Overall, Nomis is a really good mystery crime thriller that rides like a roller coaster. There are so many twists and turns that it’ll leave you at the edge of your seat until the very end. Not to mention, the film’s unpredictability will keep you guessing throughout the film as well.

Cavill

While I Witcher away in far flung lands, Nomis is being enjoyed for the very first time by fans and peers! Thank you to the Los Angeles Film Festival for hosting our film, and best wishes to my co-stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Alexandra Daddario, who will be there alongside our fearless leader, the mighty and talented, David Raymond. I look forward to the day that you all get to enjoy this on the big screen!

Sir Ben Kingsley Helps Close Out L.A. Film Festival at 'Nomis' Premiere

https://twitter.com/stingrayed/status/1046847121318535168

The Hollywood Reporter

"Really, because I've been able to explore so much, it's such a joy to explore so many different faces of humanity," Kingsley told The Hollywood Reporter of what lured him to the twisty tale. "Originality's very appealing — we don't like a copy of a copy of a copy…David is a wonderful writer, and he's a very sensitive and intelligent director, and I've become quite fond of him and associated with his future project. So I think that speaks for itself really: that his originality, I think, is very appealing."

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/nomis-closes-la-film-festival-lead-sir-ben-kingsley-1148345

Crafting an effective police procedural as a directorial debut presents both opportunities and pitfalls for emerging filmmakers. Perhaps one of the greatest challenges lies with navigating the genre’s many memorable classics, from noir-era Hollywood to contemporary crime dramas, in search of an original vision.

With Nomis however, first-time writer-director David Raymond appears more inclined to rely on precedent than innovation. The film’s starry cast will be a strong selling point, but a plot that’s overly complicated rather than genuinely complex may leave audiences wishing for less incident and more clarity.

Raymond lends the film an impressively polished sheen throughout, incorporating the suitably wintry Canadian locations as integral plot points.

HCO

We had a chance to catch up with Director David Raymond at the world premiere of Nomis at the Film Independent festival in Hollywood for this exclusive interview on Henry Cavill, Superman, and Mission Impossible: Fallout.

https://twitter.com/HenryCavillOrg/status/1047508540892504064

First off, how did that standing ovation feel after Nomis premiered at LAFF?

Amazing. Test screenings weren’t an option during post. So with the exception of a few friends and family screenings, I’d never seen it play to a proper audience. It was a relief to say the least, seeing an audience react the way they did and enjoy it.

Tell us how this opportunity to close out LAFF came about?

The film was independently financed so you always look for a platform to show the film to studios and distributors in its best presentation (i.e. in front of an audience). As soon as I’d finished it, we started discussing options and the festival watched it and immediately offered us the gala closing night. The stars aligned thankfully.

At what point did the idea of Henry Cavill for Marshall come up and how realistic did you think it would be to get him?

An agent suggested him and I initially thought… “There’s no way he’d do this.” You can imagine my jaw hit the floor when a call came through saying “Henry wants to meet you.”

Can you give us any details on when and where the general public will be able to see Nomis?

We’re in the process of finding its home, so news should be forthcoming.

What’s your reaction to the recent news that Henry might be done playing Superman?

I hope it’s not true. I did see a statement from Warners that it wasn’t true. … Henry IS Superman and in so many ways the perfect Superman. [...]

Have you seen Mission Impossible: Fallout?

Four times. When Henry first told me about it my first question was, “Is McQuarrie doing it!?” [...] Having said that, I did cheer along with everyone else when Henry succumbed to a helicopter chain hook to the face.

I thought DR directed and or wrote more films. He only has one film (a short) before Nomis. He wrote, directed and produced both films.

I hope Nomis gets a distributor. A lot of crap like The Predator, The Nun, The Meg, Mile 22, Venom etc. are being released. Give a newbie a chance.

Oh, HCBr is a website now? https://twitter.com/portalhcbr/status/649678080290762752

I wonder what brought about the sudden change. Are they trying to copy the new IMDB clone. They, too, were an HC website with different social media pages. Now they’re looking more like IMDB with a page for several actors. And despite all the verification nonsense, people seem to prefer it over this one. It’s hyper over there while it’s pretty much death over here.

The new IMDb clone, as you call it, doesn’t look like IMDb. Only the threads look like IMDd threads. And it’s not about films either.

Btw, the CC hate page is an HC fan page now. Nothing hateful anymore. Coincidence? Also, only one of the old chicks who started the hate page remain. In her manifesto, which kind of look like the one on HCBr, she claims to have “distancing” herself from some “toxic people”. I really want to know what happened. laughing

@Cashmere said:

This website copied IMDb to give IMDb users a place to post. But many left IMDb bc of the unpleasant environment that haters and trolls created. Maybe they see this website as an extension of that unpleasant environment and stay away.

I agree. All websites with a discussion board for actors are IMDb clones? IMDb came up what that concept?

HC’s single now (I think stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye). Will she remain good when he’s not? rofl

Lots of coincidences happening lately. On the bright side, it's good to change and part ways with toxic people.

You think, huh? Well, as long as you don’t forget that he’s on a set with many females. Pics of him talking and laughing with them will keep leaking.
