Discuss Shemp Howard

Can you please link the bio for Shemp to his Wikipedia page? I mean this is Shemp Freakin' Howard we are talking about here. He was a founding member of one of the greatest comedy teams of all time. Show some respect!

In case you're not aware, every TMDb member who wishes to contribute data to a movie, t.v., or person Overview page anywhere on the site can and should proactively do so. Here's a brief passage regarding that from the TMDb Contributors Bible:

Our data is 100% user contributed. We encourage you to add missing items yourself and edit any incorrect data that you find. You can click on "Edit" on any movie, TV show, people or collection entry to access the editing interface.

I'm not a moderator, simply happened to notice your post on the Support forum and decided to try to be helpful by passing along the above.

2:23a.m. EST (USA) update: I've just now finished condensing and adding Shemp's Wikipedia bio to his TMDb Overview page. TMDb bios must not exceed a certain limited length, which is why it was necessary to do drastic pruning of the Wikipedia text.

If you ask to add the link to his Wikipedia article as his Official Site / Homepage here at the bottom:

https://www.themoviedb.org/person/13967-shemp-howard/edit?active_nav_item=primary_facts

than it's a definite: "No!" It's against the rules according to our Contribution Bible:

"The homepage field should only be used for the person's official website. Non-official websites such as fansites, databases, and social media websites are not allowed."

Wikipedia is not an official website! no_good_tone2

OT -> The weird thing is: More than 20 years ago, the professor for literature that I worked for was disgusted when anyone only mentioned the word Wikipedia in his courses or in written papers! Because - for him - Wikipedia was unreliable and disrespectful towards the great French and Spanish novelists and poets he loved so much and he knew everything about. How time changes - now people like you think that Wikipedia is the best way to honour such a person. In my opinion, Wikipedia is still unreliable when it comes to details; at least on matters that I know a bit better. Showing someone respect by linking his Wikipedia article sounds like a bad joke in my old ears, to be honest. hear_no_evil

Glad to be able to help! relaxed I personally don't like the practice, by many, of copying and pasting Wikipedia biographies (even in highly condensed form) on TMDb, and never, prior to now, have presented one accordingly. This one time I decided to make an exception to my usual rule. upside_down

Me too! I hate that it is allowed to use them. But that's what was decided and I have to follow this rule (and don't use them myself).

LOL! Off with my head! scream lol

By the way, in the course of checking out Mr. Howard's info a little while ago, I noticed that there's what appears to be an official Three Stooges website. Is it permissible to add its link to his Overview page? (The slot, on his editing page, for adding an official website's link is presently locked.) If it's okay for presentation, here's the link: http://www.threestooges.com/ Of course it pertains to the Stooges collectively, rather than to solely just Shemp Howard.

The last sentence would be 1 of the reasons I'm reluctant to add this website -> it's not really about the person as an individual, but the group he was part of.

Another reason would be that the person is already dead and wouldn't be able to give consent to whatever is published on this website. Not long ago, we moderators had a discussion about homepages and social media accounts for persons who aren't alive anymore, and we couldn't really find a solution between preservation, information, representation and authenticity.

And there's also the question of how we define an official source. For example, what happens if you find 2 different pages for the Stooges that both claim they're the official source and they both look legit?

On the other hand, I don't want to be the judge of that, so I un-locked the editing field for the homepage here. unlock

I'm inclined to think probably best not to present that site link, for the exact reasons you stated, particularly that it's not a site devoted to him specifically. Plus the fact that it pitches some merchandise items throws off its vibe a bit.
