The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards (Chinese: 台北金馬影展; pinyin: Táiběi Jīnmǎ Yǐngzhǎn; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tâi-pak Kim-má iáⁿ-tián) is a film festival and awards ceremony held annually in Taiwan. It was founded in 1962 by the Government Information Office of the Republic of China (ROC) in Taiwan. The awards ceremony is usually held in November or December in Taipei, although the event has also been held in other locations in Taiwan in recent times

"Palace of Serendipity" features award-winning actors and national treasures from the National Palace Museum. Ten award-winning actors and actresses creatively personify selected treasures with historical background and imagination. The personified treasures are residents in an apartment building that is isolated due to an accident. They each have their own short story and are subtly connected.

Our story begins with Junior Detective LIN, who has just been put in charge of a case that appears to be a suicide. Most curiously, the crime scene has many features in common with a scene from a Sherlock Holmes novel. Detective Lin quickly discovers that it is a murder case. Meanwhile, a group of young sleuths supports their detective club president GAO’s dream to win a writing contest. The three club members, psychologist ZHONG, social worker WEN, and pharmacist ZHANG, each harbor a hidden secret. GAO could never have expected that he would become implicated as the killer in an actual murder case! As Detective LIN delves deeper into his case, a series of seemingly unrelated events all end up pointing towards the club members.

JIANG has just begun his career as an after-school tutor. He has a great sense of humor in teaching but suffers from intimacy issues due to the influence of his parents who endure lifelong mental illnesses. Failing to obtain commitment, JIANG’s girlfriend Lan decides to run away from JIANG and works as an elementary school teacher in a remote village.
