Il protagonista della serie è Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), un affermato avvocato la cui laurea viene invalidata poichéottenuta in modo illegale. Del gruppo fanno parte anche altri singolari personaggi, come Shirley Bennet (Yvette Nicole Brown), una mamma che decide di frequentare per la prima volta il College dopo il fallimento del suo matrimonio, l'ex quarterback del liceo Troy Barnes e la nerd Annie Edison, segretamente innamorata di quest'ultimo dai tempi del liceo.
