1793, Francouzská revoluce. Charette, mladý muž ve výslužbě z královského námořnictva, je už tři roky zpátky doma. Na venkově doutná hněv rolníků: vyzývají mladého vysloužilce, aby se ujal velení povstání. Během několika měsíců se z nečinného námořníka stane charismatický vůdce a prozíravý stratég, který do svých řad přivede rolníky, dezertéry, ženy, starce a děti, z nichž vytvoří hrozivou armádu. Boj za svobodu teprve začíná.

1793, French Revolution. For three years now, Charette, a young man retired from the Royal Navy, has been back home. In the country, the anger of the peasants rumbles: they call on the young retiree to take command of the rebellion. In a few months, the idle sailor becomes a charismatic leader and a shrewd strategist, bringing in his wake peasants, deserters, women, old people and children, of which he makes a formidable army. The fight for freedom has only just begun.

Die anfängliche Begeisterung über die Französischen Revolution von 1789 weicht schnell der Ernüchterung: Korruption, Unterdrückung und Zwangsrekrutierung durch die Regierung der Ersten Republik treiben einfache Bauern und Handwerker auf die Barrikaden. 1793, Revolución Francesa. Desde hace tres años, Charette, un joven retirado de la Marina Real, ha vuelto a casa. En el campo, retumba la ira de los campesinos: llaman al joven jubilado a tomar el mando de la rebelión. En pocos meses, el marinero ocioso se convierte en un líder carismático y un astuto estratega, trayendo a su paso campesinos, desertores, mujeres, ancianos y niños, de los que forma un formidable ejército.
