Feels like it should be Edna...but anyway...

From the Halloween novelization:

The prologue of the novel takes place at the dawn of the Celtic race in Ireland and tells the story of a young 15-year-old disfigured boy named Enda who is passionately in love with the King Gwynwyll's daughter, Deirdre. After being severely humiliated for attempting to win her love Enda attacks and brutally slays Deirdre and her fiancé at a community ritual event on Halloween. Enda is immediately killed by the other members of the village and his soul cursed to wander the Earth forever, re-creating the events of that night.

This was only ever mentioned in the novelization for the first movie. Part 6 took great pains to try and give a sort of origin to the "curse" of Michael Myers, but they never used this explanation. Druids and runes and cult of Thorn, but nothing about a spurned disfigured Celtic teen. Oddly enough, if Myers has to be explained it makes slightly more sense than the nonsense put forth in part 6.

But does he have to be explained? And would this be good enough? And...why after all these centuries would the ghost of Enda randomly possess Michael in 1963?

The original's vagueness SO works in its favor...and is (of course) a MUST watch come October in my household. Not even what led Michael to do what he did need explaining...sick kid, THE END.

I didn't even care for SPOILERS laurie being related to Michael, revealed in the 2nd movie END SPOILERS...the mystery is what worked.

Rob Zombie's "sicko redneck" origin kinda works well for THAT movie...though not my preferred explanation.

I've read it and thought it was interesting yet it didn't answer questions that would be brought up in sequels. The novel explains he killed Judith and others as his crush was killed. A sacrifice. So it makes more sense a thorn demon wants them instead of a ghost.

I agree. I think the fact that we don't know why Myers is the way he is makes him much more terrifying.

I also agree about the sister angle they took in part II. Carpenter spent the whole first movie building up Myers to be evil and a force of nature and how everyone is in danger only to change him into a guy who just wants to off his sibling.
