Disturbing Behavior has always intrigued me because of its background. Originally the director, David Nutter, submitted the film with a runtime of 115 minutes. After multiple failed test screenings, the production company made him delete scenes and shorten others resulting in the runtime being 83 minutes. Of course there are about 20 minutes of deleted scenes including an alternate ending (original ending) on the dvd. There were still some scenes that were never released. Having said all that I recently read the original script and was surprised at how different it was from the final product.
• There isn’t the long opening shot. Instead the movie starts with Andy and Mary Jo I the car. • Also Andy never snaps her neck instead he shoots her with the gun he steals from the officer. • Rosenberg also mentions a lot of music he wanted to be included but wasn’t in the movie. He names bands like Metallica, Mairlyn Manson, and Iron Maiden. (probably couldn’t afford the rights. The soundtrack ended up being decent anyway.) • There are two morgue scenes one where Gavin first discovers Mary Jo’s body and another where he brings Steve to show him proof. (a deleted scene that was never released to the public, but you can see a part of it in the trailer). • One of the deleted scenes on the dvd where Newberry tells Steve about the car crash that caused Caldicott to come to town and start the Blue Ribbon program is not included. • There is a nerd character named Drip who plays a minor role. • There’s a hockey game scene of the blue ribbons playing with Drip and when he falls through the ice they only pretend to help him and he dies. Steve sees it happen. • There’s a Police Station scene where Steve almost tells the officer about the blue ribbons being programmed but finds out the officer is chug’s father so he doesn’t say anything. • Two scenes with the cop, officer Kramer’s, (who was shot in the beginning) wife • The deleted scene of the conversation between Steve and his dad are gone • Lorna never comes over and bashes her head against the mirror. • There’s a Prom scene • There is also a Graduation scene • The programming room scene is completely different with Caldicott using the home tape of Steve’s brother Allen and his girlfriend Abbey and changing it to show them shooting themselves (Crazy shit, even though it sounds far-fetched I think it could’ve been a really creepy scene.) • Steve kills Dickie in the programming center once he escapes. • Gavin kills Lorna because he couldn’t control his sexual urges. • Also Lindsay’s friend Shannon (who was spelling phlegm at the dinner table) has a bigger role. She’s programmed and has a few more scenes.
