Did anyone find Julia attractive?

She seemed so homey and the short hair wasn't flattering. Yet men through themselves at her

Julia wasn't particularly attractive, but she wasn't unattractive either. Overall, she wasn't my type.

You have to remember that back then middle-class wives were mostly dowdy. We have different standards now for what we consider appropriate/attractive. But no, I didn't find her at all good-looking.
