Discuss Gomorrah

I liked it... It was great to see the unglamourous side of Mafia...

From the idiot wannabe gangster teens to the fatty gangsters and various enablers, money deliverers and such... All wothout hollywood polish...

It was also interesting to see how intertwined the mafia is innthe local community on a grassroots level and not just by gaming the system...

I enjoyed this a lot more than any American gangster movie I've seen in the past few years...

I enjoyed this mostly - despite the terrible acting of Gianni and his "weight loss". It made me laugh to hear them shout "You're skinny now Gianni" even though he hadn't lost an ounce and just dumped the baggy clothing. Also the cock eyed Don was very distracting. I also wondered whether all the saggy bottomed jeans was a fashion statement or just - well - saggy bottomed guys !!!

Definitely a cut above American gangster flicks for that reason. But I'm sure that makes it a difficult watch for a lot of people. Since every character is detestable, there's really no "hero" of the story, no clear protagonist worth cheering for. With the exception of Roberto who is the only character who comes to a sort of awakening & act of nobility (I loved his story but it was just 1 subplot), I just couldn't wait for everyone to die.

But I think that's the director's intent, and it's brilliantly achieved by the time the credits roll. This film makes the entire criminal underworld look like a bunch of disgusting, clueless losers, unlike American crime flicks that always try to make crime look cool. That's not how it is in the real world, never was.

You serious? It would be easier to name all the ones one that don’t.

If you think real life gangsters are like Di Nero, Pacino, Brando, Clooney, Walken, Keitel, Pesci, Madsden et al, I can’t help you.

I don't need your help...

If you're talking about ..... Goodfellas, Scarface, The Goffather, King Of NY, The Irishman, Casino ..... in that order .... then you must understand ..... those movies have got style and a far better direction than the jumped up Gomorrah.

Nobody makes crime look cool. Even movies like A History of Violence, City of God & The Drop ..... have their own style of portraying Gangsters.

And I still got no clue why you talk about Clooney & Madsen. If you are talking about From Dusk till Dawn, Oceans Eleven & Reservoir Dogs .... They're conman and criminals ..... not Gangsters. You've seriously got no clue about Gangsters and what they are like.

You might want to actually watch the movie we’re talking about before you jump into a discussion. If you’ve already watched it, you might want to watch it again and without the drugs this time. One of the clear underpinnings of Gomorrah is the way dumb street punks try to act like glamorized Hollywood gangsters but they’re just dumb street punks all the way to the top. Get it? Have fun, Mr tough guy Mafia expert lol.

Unglamoursied mafia film

It's neither an American mafia movie nor one of those flicks from Japan which genuflects before The Yakuza. Not surprisingly, Gommorah is refreshingly unglamorous

I know right? Go figure the Italians would know the mafia better than Americans.
