I think the directors cut just has too many unnecessary scenes that dont benefit the story all that much. I prefer the shaved time and focus on the main points.

I must actually disagree with you. While the film does tend to feel slightly long with the longer cut, I really do like the longer cut more as you get to know the characters even more. I also wish they could have put the Stairway scene in, and probably the cocaine scene too!
