How about "the second Mrs. Calvert." She was originally the children's Yankee governess, and nobody ever let her forget it. I wonder about her background, since most women remained at home until they married. What inspired her to move to the South to accept a job as a governess on a plantation? Was she there before the first wife died, or was she hired afterwards? Did she and Mr. Calvert fall in love, or was it a marriage of convenience? And why would a Southern planter hire a Yankee to look after his children? And what became of her when she returned North after the war? So many questions?

Yes, I forgot about Mrs. Calvert. Good thinking. From how she was described and what was said about her, by others, she seemed very different than all the others in the county. There are so many I would just love to know more about. I would even like to know about the snobby old hags in Atlanta. They sure liked to gossip and run their mouths, but no way were their pasts been as perfect as they wanted everyone to believe. And speaking of Mrs. Calvert, it would also be nice to know what eventually happened to Kathleen. Always felt like Scarlett would have just let her come live with them at Tara. But also understand her reasoning for not. She just had so much already on her.

I know a lot of people don't like the other books, like"Rhett Butler's People." But that book does get into Belle's back story and gives insight to she and Rhett's bond.

I like Belle yeah :) and Rhett Butler's People- only read it once, but I really liked it I wouldn't mind the likes of Kathleen (is that Scarlett's sweet sister?), India and Charles Hamilton being told more about either

Scarlett's first name is Katie (short for Kathleen - named after her aunt in Ireland **I think it was her aunt.)

Belle Watling for me too. Full of kindness in spite of what she must have seen in her line of work
