Bespreek Planes, Trains and Automobiles

I liked Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Should it be remade? Perhaps not...but I would certainly check it out.

Remakes don't always do justice, but I can think of several that were better:

Of course, for each one of these hits, there is also misses such as Total Recall or Ghostbusters.

Let's see if this project ever happens and, if so, how it does.

Some might say that Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis starrer Due Date was already a kind of remake of PT and A.

I'll have to check it out. Going with a somewhat different plot and title takes some pressure off, as most people would not see it as a full remake, so the expectations are far lower.

Oh, one more thing - I prefer linking to the movie page here in TMDb rather than... that other site that shall not be named ;-)

I remember quite liking it. Although I can't remember it very well.

Yeah, I probably should do. I still use imdb because I know how to interpret the ratings better. The ratings here seem a bit random. Possibly because there is a lot less traffic. Hopefully that will change.

Cool!

I agree with you, this site has less traffic (for ratings - obviously, we now have more traffic for discussion boards because, well, that other site shuttered its discussion boards), and I figured that means there's a higher quotient of cinephiles resulting in ratings here being consistently lower than what we'd see over at the other site.

That does make a lot of sense. But you do get some ratings for the odd show or film that are just bafflingly high. Like for things like Riverdale. Which gets negative reviews and sits at 6.7 on imdb yet it's on 86% here. I've never seen it so I couldn't say if that's accurate but there seems to be a lot of things like that that seem to be anomalies. So I find it hard to rely on the ratings here.

I hear you! I don't put a lot of weight on ratings from any site (this one, that one, Rotten Tomatoes...none of them). So many movies that I love don't get a lot of love from ratings, and a lot of material that garners high ratings don't resonate with me, so ratings aren't a big factor in what I use any of these sites for. Obviously, message boards are larger factor - I participated in conversations at that other site for years, and it was their shuttering that which drove me looking elsewhere and ending up here after trying a few others.

Either way, one great thing about the interweb is that we can pick pieces from as many different sources as we like in order to cobble together our mix of information, as we are so individually inclined - it'd be boring if everyone did things exactly the same way I do, it's great to interact with others and share views, ideas, opinions - it's all good :-)

I don't really trust ratings either. But I can kind of read into them to tell whether I'd find something worth watching. And, yeah I look at different sites to get a bigger picture and try to decide. But this site I can't quite suss out ratings wise. It is very good for discussions though. It's well set out. I don't get why it doesn't get more people. The other movie sites seem to be more popular but I don't think they're as good.
