Discuss Coach Carter

As a former teacher, I could relate to the frustration of him wanting those kids to do more than just the status quo, while working for a principal who only is concerned about money. She was basically giving up on them, saying that graduating was a long shot for the boys, and all they could hope to do is be a jock on the team for 4 years.

I wish there were more films like this, where we see positivity and mentoring for young men.

Maybe it is an immense amount to remedy, but I think it would be worth it to possibly better even a few of the students' lives or outlook on what they could be. I have had students who had no interest in learning anything, didn't care about their futures much etc., but at the same time, there were few who I know I was able to inspire and touch them in a way that a parent may have not had the ability to. Not saying they are guaranteed to be successful, but at the very least, they understand there are people who care enough to encourage them to be more than they figured they could.
