Discuss Diamonds Are Forever

When I first saw this movie as a kid back in 1971 (which in retrospect I shouldn't have because I was too young due to the content), I was so happy that Sean Connery had returned to play James Bond. I thought it was terrific! Nowadays, I say to myself, "what were you thinking, young Maria? It was horrible!"

This one had a spectacularly clever opening sequence and the sights of Lana Wood being stripped down to her panties+Jill St. John getting things stuffed down the back of her bikini wasn't rough on the eyes. Overall, not one of the stronger additions to the franchise, we're in agreement, MK

@mechajutaro:๐Ÿค”The part where he's looking for Blofeld to avenge Tracy's death was okay, and of course there was A LOT of eye candy for the male members of the audience, but the part that impressed my 10 year old self was the waterbed filled with fish!

@mechajutaro laughing I forgot to say to say, long time, no hear! I enjoy talking to you, so don't be a stranger!

Anyway, black to the movie. According to the YouTube channel DutchBondFan(which is very good, he does a great job on the background of each movie as well as the review), after OHMSS, when George Lazenby didn't come back( for whatever reason), an American actor named John Gavin had been signed up to play Bond. However, when Connery decided to do it for 2 million dollars, Gavin's contract was bought out.

And my point is, you might be wondering? From time to time I think about how much better this movie could have been If a someone other than Connery had played Bond. Please give your thoughts on this.

The problem isn't Connery, the problem is the atrocious screenplay by Tom Mankowitz, who also wrote Live and Let Die and The Man With the Golden Arm, three of the worst Bond film's. In fact, the screenplay is so bad that I don't care what Richard Dinner says, there is just no way that Mankowitz's rewrites of the screenplay for "Superman: The Movie" could possibly have been substantial, it is too good , although it is clear he must have been the one who added all the awkward jokey humor that everyone hates.

Three of the worst Bond films? Live and let die? The man with the golden gun? Fuck outta here with that garbage. I'm yet to witness an intelligent person worth a damn know what he's talking about when it comes to Bond films.

So you're s fan of the annoying redneck cop, and idiocy like Bond accidentally swallowing a bullet or the bad guy popping like a balloon? You think those things make for a good Bond film?

How old are you? And what are your favourite Bond films? I'm guessing you're one of those edgy wretched human beings with no discernible talents or humour detected anywhere near its live corpse, am I right?

Glad to see The Movie Database's discussion boards are turning out the same class of reasonable good-natured friendly debate as the old imdb boards.

worried

There is one part of Diamonds Are Forever that I did like-when Bond was getting his ass kicked by Thumber and Bambi.

I haven't seen it in years and sure enough today it was on TMC, so recorded it and will check it out in the next few days.
