Discuss FX's A Christmas Carol

"Keep William Shakespeare away from my works!" With the sotto voce dialog, asides, soliloquies, and "graveyard whispers," I had to turn on Closed Captioning to see what the characters were saying. This miniseries had/has all the appeal of the "miners in space" movie, "Armageddon." Exposition and speeches that would fill the pages of a small telephone directory, most "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." If all of this "screen verbiage" were cut, this 3 hour mess would take about 90 minutes. It doesn't help that "The Ghost of Christmas Past" shows up at the tail end of Part One and doesn't leave until the beginning of Part Three (!). I knew this version was "Hipster bait" when the first "Folk!" was uttered early in Part One. The characters sprayed a lot of "Folk!" and "Folking" around throughout BBC's three night opus.

This version is an ABOMINATION!

Missed the FX Premier, but lo & behold, there it is on HULU, at first I was like "YAY!"..then i actually WATCHED IT! Holy geez!

Scrooge prostituted as a child? Having his way with Mrs Cratchit for money? I'm all for a "darker" vision, but was expecting VISUAL dark..not added child rape and Mrs Cratchit hoeing herself out! Stick to the old versions & stay away from this garbage!

I said on another thread, imagine 'A Christmas Carol' made by Scorcese or Tarantino! Even the muppets version was better than this & I hated that version!

Robert Zemeckis tackled A Christmas Carol using his motion capture technology back in 2009...I thought that version was PLENTY dark without going overboard..some damn scary images in that film (probably why it didn't do too well at the box office at the time).

Jim Carrey being the scariest of all!
