Catalaya was some kind of relentless assassin. That scene where she faces off with Agent Ross was chilling.

Too bad her relentless pursuit cost as much as it did. But then, her entire family was born in the life and there's, apparently, no escaping that dismal reality.

And, in that, it's difficult to drum up any great degree of sympathy for her.

As for the movie itself, its pacing was weird - far too much time on some scenes, and not at all enough on others.

Having said that, Catalaya is as lethal as Jason Bourne or Salt, a character that could have sustained additional installments, had the poor writing not doomed this first installment to perform so poorly at the box office.

She was very selfish. It was infuriating to watch her leave the Cattleya flower behind to taunt Don Luis, and not tell her uncle about that. She knew that they would come after her family too, as that is their ruthless way. She was prepared for what would happen next, but not her family. They didn't know what she was doing and they were tortured and slaughtered. She sacrificed them, just to get back at her parents' killers.

In the end it was a pyrrhic victory. She has no close family left, while Don Luis family will (happily) continue without him.

Jason Bourne, Evelyn Salt and even Frank Castle were likeable characters, but she is someone to avoid.

She was damaged. Her anger consumed her to the degree that she could not feel. Again, cold to a flaw. BUT...

Now that vengeance has been served (you see what I did there?), perhaps she may grieve for the idyllic life she'll never know, the family doomed to live and die by the sword, and perhaps connect to someone. On this basis, I'd have liked to see where her character could go in a sequel because, anger assuaged by the completion of her vengeance mission, she still has skills that could be useful continuing to take out the trash.

As for her family, it's hard to sympathize. As her uncle said, they were all marked for death, that's the life they chose.
