Thanks for your report!
I think you're mistaken. The website DEADLINE announced in April 2012 that
"Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, the highly anticipated sequel to 2006’s film SILENT HILL, released by TriStar Pictures".
When you put the official website of Open Road Films into the wayback machine and go back to 2012, you'll find a page like this one that uses "3D" in the title:
https://web.archive.org/web/20120918203454/http://www.openroadfilms.com//#!/coming-soon/silent-hill-revelation-3d/
And the official trailer and the official facebook use both "3D" in the title:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f06VJSsh8II
https://www.facebook.com/SilentHillRevelation
I think the correct title is: "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" and we don't have to change the entry here on TMDb.
Of course, if you find any source that proves the opposite, we should change it!

I know I had seen promotional material with 3D in the title to promote that it was in 3D but this is done a lot; and I've not noticed it being official, even for the 2d variation of the movie, for 3d is not the only one that exists. So it was just really weird and I'll take your word for it as just a bad decision on their part.

So let me understand.... Logically adding 3d randomly to a title is like adding UHD or SUPER/ULTRA 70 to it. Unless a name play with the third sequel. Also even in one response above agrees it is a PROMO/Poster title. Archived links to a promo is proof of ORIGINAL title? So TMDBs official response is we are gonna call 3D original title instead of promo/poster title. Then EN is stuck with it forever and translated other language can use the real title. And EVERY language will add it to ALT title? Really?

TMDb is always trying to find the first official original title of every entry -> take a look into the section in our Contribution Bible:
"The original title is usually the title of the original version of the film when it is first officially released locally."
To find this original title, we are always searching for official documents that are proof of this first title. In my reply to @Mark Rushow above, I cited 1.) an article from DEADLINE, 2.) an official announcement from the production company "Open Road Films" on the official website, 3.) a link to an official trailer, and 4.) a link to the official facebook page -> all these official documents use the title "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D". Because of those 4 documents, I came to the conclusion that this is the official title.
I could still be wrong, but I need proof for that. You write about a "PROMO/Poster title" -> can you give me a link, please, to an official promo and/or poster that does not use the title "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" and that was used for the first release of this movie? That's all I need, in fact.
Translated title "should be the first official translation. In other words, the title of the first—theatrical, physical, digital or TV—release." If another country released this movie under a different title, you have to add this title to the database. You can't use any title for this data field - a mistake a lot of contributors still do.
Alternative titles "should only be used for titles that are different from the original and translated titles. It should not be used to list all the different translations."
No, not really. Again: If you find any source that proves my decision to be wrong, we should change it!

This is just another case like Step Up 3D. I'm with Janar. 3D is part of the (original) title.
