Discuss Jiu Jitsu

I'd expect a movie called "Jiu Jitsu" to actually have something to do with Jiu Jitsu. As it stands it seems like they could have given it any other name like "General Motors" or "Fisherman's friend" because I'm pretty sure I saw a car and a boat mixed in there with random fight scenes.

After watching the first 30 minutes Nicolas Cage has so far been in the movie for mere seconds. I do wonder does he even describe himself an actor these days or does he think himself more of a handyman who people call when they need some random sh!t taken care of in front of a camera. He seems ever so eager to oblige and stand in front of the camera and do whatever.....except maybe acting.

Times are tough, even actors need cash to pay for their new homes.

That is true however it seems that Nicolas Cage has been well ahead of the curve and has already been suffering from the effects of the Corona virus for the past 20 years or so.

When think about the "best" Martial Art, Jiu-Jitsu comes to mind. Samurai title was taken so they had to use a catchy name.

Seeing the trailer (quality of the video is quite crap I might say), I don't understand how somebody would waste time watching it. I barely watched the whole trailer!

Well, I finally managed to suffer through this movie. It's just a very poor film all around. They somehow manage to completely screw up the old Predator in the jungle hunting people formula. The movie resembles an amateurish high school play more than a movie that cost millions* to make. Non-existant story and random scenes that jump from one scene to another. Just so much stupid crap going on, but I have to mention that these "Jiujitsu fighters" have some kind of magical hoodies that render them completely invincible to the alien threat. Yet they choose to wear these Walmart looking cheap hoodies only when they are not attacking the thing. Now I am something of a jiujitsu expert by virtue of being one of the very few people on earth who have watched this movie (to the end) and with my vast knowledge on the subject I can proclaim that wearing those hoodies while attacking the alien menace would have been a good idea.

*On the TMDB main page for this movie it says: "Budget $23,000,000.00" and "Revenue $74,000,000.00", which begs so many questions, but the main one is, those numbers aren't real, are they? I mean the budget alone would raise some serious eyebrows in any individual who has seen this movie, but that revenue is just preposterous.

I think the actress Marie Avgeropoulos did an ok job in this, but I'm not sure where she vanished off to after the mid point of the film. I don't think she is quite an A-list actress, but not bad enough to be making D-class movies like this. I think she should change her name to Marie Averageropoulos so anytime a director and or producer thinks "We have a limited budget which actress shall we get..... we need someone of average acting capability and average cost" they will instantly think of Marie Averageropoulos.

What a s h i t t y movie.

According to Box Office Mojo it has only made about $99, 924 Internationally, it's Wikipedia page says even less ($90, 674).

Cage is in it so they could put his name and face on the artwork. Without even seeing the trailer, I doubt very much that they spent $23 Million on it. And, yes, anyone can add data to titles on IMDb, and add whatever they want. Anyone. It's basically wikipedia for films.

It looks like the vast majority of that almost 100k came from countries who are known to be enthusiastic supporters of high culture. Countries like United Arab Emirates (30k$), South Africa (20k$) and Vietnam (30k$). Still, I don't believe those numbers are accurate either although much closer to the truth than the 74 million $ that now seems to be corrected on the TMDB page. Even though people in the west are slowly probably starting to wisen up the con that is the modern 'acting' career of guys like Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and Bruce Willis I have a hard time believing the movie didn't also make at least 30k in the US and or Europe.
