Discuss Promising Young Woman

I haven't seen the movie... I've watched the trailer... Not impressed... I'm not a fan of revenge type movies in general...

Movies like Django Unchained, Inglorious Bastreds and such... I find it like losers trying to rewrite history just to assert themselves today rather than to examine it from an interesting angle... (actually in Inglorious it's more of a flex, but suffers the same)

Revenge or a Flex? This movie, or rather the trailer, feels more like a flex... The matriarchy asserting it's dominance over America... Does that come across in the movie?

I don't know if I'll watch it... If cinemas were open, I might have been to see it as I'm sure some of my friends are interested...

"feels more like a flex..."

What does that mean?

Flexin' in the urban sense of the word. To show off dominance... It's a Hollywood movie that displays the dominance of women over men in contemporary American culture. Kind of like their MeToo purge a couple of years ago. If it wins the Oscar, it'll be the ultimate flex.

No, I'm not. I just like movies.

It's an objectively good movie, period. I'm about as anti hyper-feminism and anti wokeness as most, but I'm sorry, it's just a very good film. At no point in the film do they use the term "rape culture," or cast a wide sweeping condemnation of all men. Sure if they wanted to make it completely balanced, they would have had a sub plot featuring rape hoaxes, but then that would be a completely different film, wouldn't it?

My sentiments exactly about revenge plots which is definitely what this was.

I didn't think Promising Young Woman was a good movie at all. It's about this woman who proves to men how despicable they are by acting drunk while going home with them and then acting sober in the bedroom.

Then in the end (spoilers) she crashes a bachelor party for a guy who somehow she blames for her friend's suicide and then handcuffs him to a bed and threatens him bodily harm with sharp objects only to be killed by him thereby sending him to prison which all the while was part of her revenge plot because somehow she knew that he would do that and that the police/jury wouldn't rule it self defense which would have been just as plausible.

Anyway. I'm not sure I would call that matriarchy but it sure was about taking down men.

Are you a film maker per chance?

Not sure if joking..."somehow she blames for her friend's suicide". He was the ringleader of a group of guys who raped her friend. Are you guys kidding or just horrible people haha.
