With the Peronist government overthrown, with General Perón in exile and the Liberating Revolution in power, four renowned Peronist leaders are confined in the distant and cold Unit 15 of the Río Gallegos prison. Faced with the imminent execution to which the political prisoners will be assigned, they decide that the only option to survive is escape. Leaving aside their personal and ideological differences, they plan one of the most spectacular escapes in Argentine history.

Unidad XV, La fuga plasma una historia basada en un hecho real ocurrido en 1956: la fuga de destacados dirigentes peronistas que estaban presos en una cárcel de mediana seguridad de Río Gallegos durante el contexto de la Revolución Libertadora. La película se centra en la huida de Guillermo Patricio Kelly, John W. Cooke, Héctor J. Cámpora y Jorge Antonio, quienes decidieron escapar debido a las condiciones en las que se encontraban prisioneros y por la inminente posibilidad de ser fusilados.
