Discuss Yesterday

Any info on this film? Something like Across The Universe with Beatles songs or will the songs be more of a background?

I wish there would be more songs. Kinda teaser. Not close to any musical. Quirky puns were cute thou :)

Something happens and everyone forgets about the Beatles. Except for one man. He starts playing their music and becomes famous. That's the basic story. It's a very light comedy. Good fluff if you like the Beatles. It's British so there is a joke about Oasis. Give it a shot.

I've heard about this movie, so I filed it under "I'll see it if/when it pops up on cable TV." It popped up late Friday/Saturday on HBO, so I set the DVR for it along with "Benny & Joon." (Another movie that I'd heard about a while ago.) The recording was awful, the video/audio version of a Radio Free Europe signal jammed by the Soviets during the Cold War. So I try HBO's Video on Demand and it's "as clear as crystal."

Hmm, a world without COCA-COLA and The Beatles!? Horrors. I wasn't a fan of The Beatles (The Rolling Stones, yeah!) but "Yesterday" looks/sounds OK. How would The Beatles' repertoire do today if no one had ever heard of the Fab Four? I suspect that the family's reaction to "Let It Be" was spot on. (Kinda like the difference between James Taylor and Jim Croce back in the day; one achieves fame and fortune as a singer-songwriter, the other is a back page article about a small plane crash.) For instance, here's something James Taylor wouldn't write about, but Jim Croce lived "before he became semi-famous": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZpBSRbLeKc

The Music Biz looks as "shiny and smelly" as expected. As for the concept, I'm reminded of an unheralded "Twilight Zone" episode, 'The Once and Future King," where an Elvis Presley impersonator is propelled back to the days of Elvis Presley, the truck driver, who takes him for a died-at-birth twin, and has doubts about Rockabilly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6vdsmrNerI&t=63s
