Discuss Jojo Rabbit

I have enjoyed all of Taika Waititi's films to date but he has yet to make a truly outstanding one - I'm not sure that this will be the one but it certainly seems a unique concept, I'll give it that. first trailer

One observation that jumps straight to mind - Waititi seems to have quite clearly 'borrowed' Wes Anderson's visual template for his film and I'm not sure that's correct for the setting and material. But we shall see.

I could easily see Hitler as an imaginary friend. After all Hobbes in Calvin and Hobbes is a tiger. The only problem I had was near the end when Hitler became to real. How would a little kid know that?

For my money, the only way to make Hitler an imaginary friend is to make him speak very angrily in German, when his 'host' doesn't speak any German. Then the host could get very disturbed at an angry Austrian fellow yelling at him in a language he doesn't speak. I'd dare any therapist to try to straighten that one out.

As an adult, I agree. But this is about a 10 year old boy who seems slightly immature.

Hobbes is not an imaginary friend in Calvin & Hobbes.

That has been discussed since a long time ago.

Nonsense, they let me win arguments and games. They don't gossip about me and they don't take my stuff. What's not to like?

So I take the message of this film is "Hitler bad". Take that Hitler ! Is the point just look at me aplauding myself ? I'm sure some neo nazi watching this wouldn't be persuaded. If you are not then some pretentious moral self congratulations . What if the imaginary was some other tyrant

We have to be careful going down that road. The next thing you know teenaged girls will be falling in love with vampires.

Do your imaginary friends know that you real or are you just as imaginary to them as they are to you?

It doesn't come up much and somehow it always leads to a discussion about a dream about a butterfly.
