Discuss Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Tell me your thoughts.

I personally might need to rewatch the movie to decide. I just finished watching the movie and felt that this scene, while very, very well done, felt anticlimactic and sort of out of place, with the whole terrorist group thing. I had assumed she was just lying to prevent her death, when she told him about her group. Also, the end was sort of a spoon fed to the viewer, with the voiceover.

That being said, I didn't get to watch the last twenty-four or so minutes until a couple of/a few days after watching all of what was before it, not because I was bored, because that I certainly wasn't (I loved what I saw), but thanks to a lack of time and my sickness/cold. Maybe this killed the atmosphere a bit?

If I change my mind on the ending, I'll be sure to post about it here, but for now, tell me whether you liked/disliked it.

Still found the movie to be great for the most part, not on that same level as Oldboy but I still had a great time watching the majority of it.

Your post has moved me to re-watch the film. I don't remember the details but I do remember feeling underwhelmed with the conclusion and also felt it was a bit anti-climatic. It is definitely my least favorite of the trilogy. I remember not liking the protagonist much and felt he was a bit of a dolt. Still, the film is wonderfully shot and has plenty of merit.

I take it you're referring to the deaf mute protagonist, not the father? I personally found him quite likable, he had some humourous moments at the beginning that made him grow on me rather quickly. Also, I'm not sure why, but I'm a sucker for mute characters.

Yes, there were so many marvellous shots in this movie. And the transitions really stood out, they were genius (one of my favourites being the first death at the river).

Yes, the mute. Some of the things he did were so stupid I wanted to reach into the screen and slap him.

SPOILERS

This is a rather interesting film. There are details about it that are not spoon-fed to the viewer, so you have to figure out what they mean. It'll probably take me some more viewings to do that. As for the ending, I honestly don't remember it, except that I think the girl's terrorist friends avenged her killing.

I didn't have a problem with that.

I actually quite liked that twist. She bragged throughout the film that she had dangerous friends and the whole time you are like "Yeah right". Even if it is true that they are dangerous they don't give a hoot about you. So when they actually come through and avenge her its like damn, that was cool! grin

Yeah, definitely.

I assumed it was a bluff, but rather than thinking it was cool when they showed up, I felt it didn't fit in with the rest of the movie. You've got a deaf mute, his sick sister, his rebellious girlfriend, a businessman father and his kidnapped daughter. Then suddenly, there's a terrorist group.

Also, I forgot to mention that I found the music for the credits to be put into the wrong movie. It was trying to be haunting?
