Discuss Revenge

Not bad at all actually. I enjoyed the story, even if it basically was your 'I Spit on your Grave' style revenge film. But than again its in the name so you should know what you are in for. The cinematography was fantastic. Really beautiful setting. Really enjoyed some of the tracking shots they did. The colors and lighting was trippy at times but that was obviously intentional. Pacing was great. But it did drag on a bit to much at the end when they were going round and round and round. I get it, but it could have been cut down a few minutes. The director knew what she wanted and went for it balls deep, or titts deep in this case! No wonder I read that they ran out of blood on location. Blood all over the place. Some really freaky scenes while she was high. Messed with your head a bit but that was fantastic.

The actors all did a great job. Especially the lead, Matilda/Jen. You can never tell that they hired her last minute since the first actress dropped out two weeks before shooting started. She was perfect in her evolution from basically a young gold digging whore to a rising phoenix out for revenge. Youll notice the phoenix theme a few times in the film. From the burning tree, to the burned on scar on her waist with the fire bird. The male actors were exactly what you would expect in a film like this, despicable with no redeeming qualities. Standard for a female revenge film. But they did great. One thing that was funny was how the other two male actors, Stan and Dimitri look normal unlike the leading actor Richard, who looks like a model from a magazine. Great casting for sure.

The soundtrack was also great. Ive noticed the trend that a good amount of films have been using 80s synth wave. Which is great in my opinion, helps introduce a whole new generation to it. It did have some pretty bad CGI but I can over look that since Im sure this didnt have a huge budget. And most of the budget they probably spent on the location and practical FX. And speaking of practical FX, this was some top notch stuff for sure! Loved all the gore and blood. And we cant go on with out mentioning the rape scene. Compared to other rape scenes Ive seen, this one was actually really tame. I feel like it should have been more brutal and violent. I mean the stuff they show, it def would have fit in. But I guess they wanted to go with a less is more approach, which in some cases work, but I dont think it worked in this instance. I also wish Jen tortured at least one the guys. But I get it, she was hurt and took the opportunities that were given to her. After all she almost died 4 times.

And that brings me to my negative points. You really have to suspend disbelief for this one. I mean you have to do that for most films, but this one especially. I mean the amount of blood coming out of her was to much. She would have bleed to death in a few miles of walking with the branch inside of her. Not to mention they never showed her cauterizing her back, where the entrance wound from the stick would have been. They just showed a big black bruise on her back the whole film. I also feel like the director, a female, threw in the male nudity to try and counter balance the female nudity...except there was no female nudity. Just bra and panties. Mean while we have the lead bad guy running around dick flopping around. Again, I would be just fine with that IF Jen did the same thing. The director was obviously trying to make a statement about sexplotation in films. From the male nudity to the low angle ass shots on Jen. Also the line at the end, 'Women always have to put up a fight.' ehhh seemed a little to on head for me. We get it, girl power, you dont need to spoon feed it to us. But you should be expecting that going into a film like this. But besides those few points, I really enjoyed it. A solid 7/10 for me.

yeah i have to largely agree with your take on it, am throwing in a somewhat positive vote for it also, it definitely surpassed what i thought it was going to be, a very low budget revenge flick, but it was slick looking, very well done imho, and all of the actors were pretty spot on with their roles - movie was very nice to look at, in more ways than one(am talking about the lead actress :) - although i am getting a bit tired of the feminism wave creeping into movies nowadays, and even though this was directed by a female, as a male viewer, i felt personally she didn't go overboard with that whole thing and push it in your face, it maintained the right classic balance for this genre of film and i gave it a solid imdb 7/10 - and am a bit confused as to all the hate and VERY low reviews and comments on imdb, some saying worst movie they ever saw, 1/10, 2/10 etc - strange! i might even check out rings now i know the lead was in that, whereas i wouldn't have previously.

Glad you liked it as well. I think more people should def give this one a chance.
