Diskuter Velvet Buzzsaw

It's getting to the point where I can actually tell a Netflix production from other films based on the lack of viability of the work.

The premise for this is just ok, kind of Twilight Zone material. As per usual, they have one A-lister and a handful of lesser names in the cast which seems to be their formula.

Is this entertaining? Kind of. Is it something I'd ever recommend or would want to watch again? Nope.

I didn’t mind it but you were correct in that it plays out very much like an episode of Twilight Zone/Tales from the Darkside. I was hoping it wouldn’t be too arty and pretentious but then found myself wanting it to be more dark and weird and yes, arty and pretentious. It played out very TV like. Expected more as Nightcrawler was a lot more interesting. I do enjoy Gyllenhaal when he plays unusual people and he dives right in on this one. It could be in that art crowd there’s nothing unusual about him at all...lol

I really like Gyllenhaal and was hopeful they'd lampoon the fine art world in this, but they just sort of scratched the surface. Inanimate objects as portals to sinister forces is kind of lame in this day and age.

Yeah, I think it would have played a lot better if they'd gone full-on into black comedy regarding the art world and the horror elements were purely just there as story background. Where, when somebody died, it was only as important as the deal they had pending or even less than if they got their latte on time and at the right temperature.

Hahaha, exactly.

This was on par with The Cloverfield Paper Chase or whatever that trash was called. A directionless attempt at thriller/horror

One A-Lister?! Which one are you referring to? Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, John Malkovitch, Toni Collette? Or writer/ director Dan Gilroy?
