Why didn't Elena exit the car by the rear window?

During the car chase, the assassin shattered the rear window of Edgar's car. Later the car sank, Jane dove and struggled with the door. Why didn't Elena simply swim through the broken window? There was enough space for her to pass.

The window may have been shattered but she would have been stopped by the glass ceiling.
