The ring shoots green laser beams, and can surround things with green energy; that's it!

i dont know about that. Id like them definitely to use the ring in a more serious way but also keep the fun with constructs. Id say serious constructs keep it more grounded. Daily uses of the ring shouldnt be over the top. When its big action then let the fun contructs happen. Like that rollercoaster scene, totally not needed given the circumstances.

These are essentially cosmic Marines. Let's get serious, and quit with the Nickelodeon cartoons.

its based on imagination. Id assume a more serious latern would use basic stuff. I could see Jon stewart not being over the top like Hal

I liked this movie. Loved Green Lantern since I was a kid and Ryan Reynolds did a decent job. Wish they did a sequel.
