Diskuter Slender Man

I heard the studio really fucked this one up. It was going to be a hard R but after one of the fathers from one of the girls IRL started complaining about it the studio lost its nerve and cut it down to a PG13 and left many things on the cutting room floor. Thats why it just seems like it makes no sense what so ever. I suggest if anyone is interested in this they wait for an R or directors cut on DVD. But since its getting slammed so badly that probably wont even happen.

Another(could have been)great horror film ruined by the dreaded PG13 bitch slap. Shame.

So true. And if you think about it this even makes no sense at all. IRL it has been teenage girls involved in the (attempted) murder and the studio has nothing better to do than put this out with a PG13, so teenagers can watch it, too??? That is like being a dry alcoholic and someone tells you that the free job at the liquor store might be the best opportunity for you... hmm

Funny side note. My wife and I went to see The Meg, a fun summer flick. She went to the bathroom and heard a bunch of teen girls talking about Slender Man and one of the girls says 'Id let Slender Man eat my ass.'...yes, this is the type of people the studios are pandering to. Fuck hardcore horror fans....Slender Man eating ass is the new thing to aim for...

Not a surprise when they went to see a tame PG13 shark movie that was intended to be a hard R and directed by Eli Roth in the first place. Think about it, the biggest shark on screen so far in movie history and the only scary thing about it was the PG13 label itself.

Didn't know about the cut down from R to PG13, if what your saying about the father that's what studio deserves if they are going to listen to someone who has absolutely no risk involved in the making of the film. I would have pulled the actress and replaced her with someone else.

In saying that, I really enjoyed the movie. There were times where it seemed like some of the things going on in the movie was kind of dumb, but that might have been like you said some cuts from R to PG13. I like Joey King and I also enjoyed her in "Wish Upon."

The parts that felt so dumb mosty have to do with the tons of existing footage they have cut out out afterwards. A lot of stuff, like characters suddenly disappearing and such, is all due to they have been killed and that scene was cut then. So when you watch the movie now there are quite a few scenes that make no sense. They would though, if we would get to see the full cut. You can even see it if you rewatch the original trailer now and compare it with the movie you just saw. It fells like half the stuff that was promised in the trailer is not even in the movie anymore. And that's why people are so pissed about this movie. Not the director's fault or the actor's. The studio is the problem.

Thanks for that info. I did mention Joey King and how I liked her in "Wish Upon." That only received a rating of 5.1 on IMDB, and "Slender Man" received a rating of 3.0 on IMDB. I was starting to think Joey was only able to get shit rolls when I realize now something like "Slender Man" could have been much better. Not Joey's fault, when the script probably reads really well; so hopefully that won't happen to her anymore.

Despite scenes being cut, this was better than Wish Upon. It was like an updated version of The Ring; I thought the scares were quite good. But you're right, could've been so much better.

There's several reasons why I really like Wish Upon, but to keep a long story short; I'll relate to just one of them. There's a movie titled "The Box" (2009,) which was a movie inspired from an episode from "The New Twilight Zone - "Button Button" (03-07-1986.)

"involves a strapped cash California couple who are struggling to make ends meet. Yet their luck is about to change for the better or will it come to doom them later? As when a strange mystery man in black shows up at their apartment door with a delivered strange box the deal is like a deal with the devil. If they push a certain button someone they don't know will die and they collect $200,000! Win win or will the luck turn about fair play or a doomed luck of the draw when the box is taken from them and given to someone they don't know!" (A review about that episode which is very much like the movie.)

Anyway, watching "Wish Upon" was very much like that for me. And I agree, Slender Man was very much like The Ring.

I actually really liked the Box, very underrated but seemed to have killed Richard Kelly's career. I can see why you'd think - story wise - it's similar to Wish Upon, but that's as far as it goes. If anything it was more like an updated version of Wishmaster.
