Discuss Mortal Engines

Peter Jackson sent some footage to the recent CinemaCon. Sounds like it was (mainly) well received but it also seems that Hester will not be as horribly disfigured as her book counterpart. No surprise there!

Hopefully she won't be the

titian-haired Amazon of the air whose divine face was marred only by a livid scar, where some brigand had drawn his stiletto across the damask flesh of her cheek

of Pennyroyal's novel in "Infernal Devices". If only because they'll have to alter that bit if they get as far as Book 3.

So is this a sequel or prequel to The Mortal Instruments?

Just in case there's a "" missing from the end of your post, neither. Whilst both are YA books ("Engines" wasn't written as such but the author aged down the leads and made a few other changes when he was told the publishers would buy it as such) and the title "Infernal Devices" is used for both Book 3 of ME and a spin off series from MI, they are unconnected.

ME is set in a post-apocalyptic world where cities mounted on tracks/wheels pursue each other and doesn't have any incestuous undertones or feature the standard YA trope of the attractive but not intimidatingly so female lead having to choose between her long time and dependable friend and the hot, mysterious new guy.
