Discuter de Holmes & Watson

This movie has gotten quite a bad rap from critics and moviegoers alike. I usually like Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows except that Benedict Cumberbatch one, which was an absolute turd an abomination. Speaking of which, this kind of looks like a similar crapfest, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. Anyone seen this?

I personally don't think it's as bad as people say I laughed a couple of times

A couple of times...for a comedy thats pretty damn bad.

It's up to a person who might like the movie or not. Each person has different perspective and so is the opinion. There may be some interesting facts in the movie.

This is one of the strangest messages I've read on this forum, and sounds like it was written by some kind of a robot. Either way, Deep blue,I appreciate your input, but watching a Will Ferrell comedy movie is probably not your best bet if you are looking for facts.

ITS A COMEDY...ITS FUNNY BUT IT ISNT GENIUS.CHILL OUT WAR DOGS.

At only 38 million with a 42 million budget, I think you need to add 'shitty' in front of comedy.

Yes, and it's just as bad as most people say it is. On the other hand, I thought the ending (the last 20 minutes of it or so) was better than what I'm used to seeing in most movies. Maybe the movie was so bad to me, that I was blown away when the ending acually was funny and entertaining.

Finally got around to seeing it, and I have to say it actually turned out to be a lot better than I expected. Had some good laughs throughout the film and overall enjoyed it more than those Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies and definitely more than those Cumberbatch TV episodes. I'd give it a solid 6 maybe even a 7.

hmmrrhh... thoughts... me me talky!....

It is rather unconventional but I certainly enjoyed it... it's something akin to a weird long SNL skit with contemporary style.

Unfortunately, unconventional productions aren't received well by the masses (just ask Terry Gilliam) but it is well made. Ferrell and Reilly play off each other so naturally which is what won me over. Kind of reminded me of older unconventional parody/ish films like "So I Married an Axe Murderer" or "Better Off Dead".

Certainly doesn't deserve the harsh publicity it has received. Too many people give nonobjective negative reviews simply because it's just not their thing. Bit like bagging Carmen because you don't like opera.

Yeah, it did kind of remind me of "The other guys", though that movie is quite a bit better than this, but still this movie does have some really good scenes like Watson barging in the court room guns blazing and the bit where they are trying to flush the queen down the toilet (toilet sized chunks). I was surprised at the amount of "1" votes/reviews on the other site that shall not be named.

I made a list called Bad Movies I Like, and The Other Guys is on it. It's not a crime to like bad movies (or, for that matter, not like good movies), but we should be able to objectively distinguish our personal likes/dislikes from recognizing "good" or "bad" movies (however a movie might be defined as good or bad).

Will Farrell's brand of comedy is a well-known commodity. His collaborations with John C. Reilly are also known for being, well, what they are. Thus, seeing H&W land a CinemaScore of D+ is noteworthy — if fans of their shtick were disappointed, it couldn't bode well for reviews or financial performance.

So, we ought not be surprised by either its 43% rating here on TMDb, or its woeful, money-losing box office performance.

From my wheelhouse, let's break down how bad its financial performance is.

In my movie ROI database of over 5,600 titles from 1915 to present, the ReelROI (box office/production budget) is $3.01. H&W generated a measly $0.96, joining just 1,525 other titles in not being able to muster $1 in a world where $2 is the ideal profit target.

And, I've got 20 Will Farrell movies which have paid $2.17, so H&W didn't even manage to meet his profitability standards.

By every measure, this is simply a bad movie. Like it if you want (and I might join you), but it is what it is.

I took a look at your 'Bad Movies' list & I have only seen one of them, 'The Golden Child'. I didn't hate it but It wasn't one of my fav EM movies, I gave it a 5/10.
