Discuss The Strange Ones

Ending was a bit confusing not sure what they meant, was it that the boy decided to not accept reality so he went off to a dreamland where he was still on that farm working and the cave he entered was sort of a descent into darkness far away from the light of the world?

Because obviously him going back there after all that happened seems like a big stretch so I certainly think that that was just his imagination but maybe there were more to it that I didn't pick up...

Am I completely getting it all wrong... what say you dudes?

The title suits it, cause it's a strange little film. It's hard to distinguish between what's real, and what's dreams, and between what is in the present, and what are flashbacks to the past. Didn't Sam get hit by a car as he was crossing the street ? Then it shows him entering the cave. The cave must have some symbolic meaning, because his older brother also went into it previously. And just what did become of the older brother ?

I read at a spoiler site that Nick & Sam are the same person (obviously at different times in their life).

If Nick and Sam were the same person at different times in their life, why were people around them talking to them at the same time like they were two different people? The woman at the motel, the people in the woods- the lady in the woods was on the news saying as soon as she saw the little boy (who she talked to, while the old man talked to Nick at the same time ) with the man, she suspected the man was the killer the police were searching for. When the police showed up at the farm group home, why were they asking Sam about the man he was with who they suspected killed Sam's dad and the lady cop said Nick was the neighbor not his brother . Sam's girl friend from school also said Nick was the neighbor.
