let me know, do they show Freddie dying in the film or do they just note it at the end that he died in 1991 before the credits role? Or does he die in the middle of the film and rest is about how the band pulled through it? The latter is how they said was going to happen so just wondering what type of film it is .

I will watch it hopefully next week, as I have been waiting years for it, but from what I am reading, if feels like they have sugarcoated over his personal life. I really wanted Sacha Baron Cohen version.

Thank you

The film ends with the Live Aid reconstruction. That's the end of Freddie's story in the film.

I read last night that the story has been fabricated in having Freddie telling the band he has contracted HIV prior to the Live Aid concert when in reality he didn't find out until Two Years later!

Poetic licence and all that but that seems a step too far in cheating emotion from the audience...

Thanks. Hoping to watch this week.

Loved the film, I don't really know details about Queen members (just their songs) so the changes to their stories didn't bother me. I immediately looked for the original 1985 Live Aid video and the movie nailed it!

There is an interesting documentary on Amazon Prime about the band that is worth a watch. Yes, lots of the timing of things seem to be moved about. I'm sure this was just "dramatic license" to make the film work. There were lots of other choices the film makers made that seemed to stray from the picture painted by the documentary but the core facts and story were accurate. I thought it was well done overall and the music scenes especially, were very entertaining.

It's mostly fiction, If you understand that when you watch it it's fine.

Some things are easy to understand, instead of Freddie working on a Market stall with Roger while going to art college with Tim, he meets Roger, Mary, Tim and Brian in the same scene, which is also the scene Tim quits as lead singer of smile, it condenses a few years of stuff and is just easier and streamlined. But other things aren't so easy to understand, like moving his aids diagnosis ahead 18 months and pretending the band split up before Live aid, in real life they had just finished a tour. Or blaming Paul Prenter for the band being a late edition to live Aid, in real life it was because Bob Geldorf was unsure about bad publicity, quite rightly as they played SunCity in 1984.

I watched this at the weekend and have to say I loved it. I went in with very low expectations, but think the film was well balanced. Thought Rami Malek did a great job. All in all 8/10 for me.

Well Bob Geldof is Sir Bob and revered and it would be unseemly to cast a shadow on him. And the rearranging of time to have Freddie bravely do the Live Aid show even after finding he was terminally ill was all dramatic effect. Queen went on a massive world tour (all but the USA where they could not sell records or tickets after "Radio Ga Ga" - I lived through that era and it was truly amazing to watch a band so huge be simply written off and forgotten by an entire country over a song and a mustache. Fans hated it as it made Freddie look gay which was not cool in 1981) and did the soundtrack for the cult fav "Highlander". After Freddie's diagnosis, he refused to tour ever again. Want true drama? Listen to his final vocal on their last album, "The Show Must Go On". Brian May reflected that Mercury was so ill he could barely stand up and he asked him if he wanted to put off doing what was a very difficult demanding vocal till he felt better. Freddie said "You f**king know better" or something to that effect, and did the amazing vocal in one take. THAT is intense and dramatic.

Thank you for that info because I also didn't know much about the history of Queen, only their music. I did hear about the Sun City incident, though, and I was expecting it to be in the film but it wasn't. Not even mentioned.

It becomes really annoying those posts debunking the movie's inaccuracies, for us ; the rest of the world, we just pay homage to the man, the band, their music and legacy. some people expect a verbatim copy of the man's lfe, & times and facts exploited in the screen, like if one's life could be duplicated to the bit in a script rolled in a 2 hours max lapse. Let's just put aside those citations."".. he said this, he said that he said before of after that..."", let's just remember his music, which I think was the film's ultimate goal. For me, it is the movie of the year 2018,one of my favorite bands ever, loved them since their beginning early 70s when the electric glam rock was starting to take over. Bowie, T.Rex,Slade,Mick Ronson, Sweet, etc, they stood out thanks to their unique style and Freddy's very typical voice fingerprint and unparalleled vocal range which turned the band and himself into a musical 'force-of-nature', fathers of the arena and pop rock genres. I remember vividly 1973 how I ran to buy the 45 RPM 'Killer Queen" as soon as I heard it on the radio, and I still have it. I saw the movie looking for entertainment and ended up with a rumination of sadness and nostalgia of how his life went by, anyway !!! Live on Freddy, the show must go on !!! Live his music and forget those little inconsequential fluffs that you happen to know, put them behind and live the music once again, remember the man not his mistakes.

Very captivating movie, but somehow I think Freddy wouldn't like it. Worth to watch nevertheless blush

I think he would have liked it because it was about all of them not just him

Yeah. It's really Freddy's film though. What a great popcorn film. I didn't want it to end....
